Crystal Palace vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 6th May 2024
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace are very determined to finish the season strongly and this could be great news for the fans given that manager Oliver Glasner has only been in charge for a few months. Glasner is already showing his credentials after a sluggish start and Palace have gone their last four games unbeaten with 3 wins and a draw. There have been recent victories over Liverpool, West Ham and Newcastle, which is no mean feat and in their last game the Eagles drew 1-1 away to Fulham. Form means Palace have risen to 14th place but with games running out their best position this season looks to be 13th. The good news is that they have climbed to 40 points and are well on course to meet their average finish from the last few seasons, that didn’t seem like a realistic target even a month ago.

Manchester United have slipped to 8th place on goal difference to Chelsea so a win really is needed here as their European hopes for next season could be in jeopardy. A win would be huge for United and would take them past both Chelsea and Newcastle and into sixth place! But the best European competition United can hope for this season is the Conference League and that is a huge fall for a club so used to competing in the Champions League. For the manager, budget and players they have, once you consider all of that this has not been a good season for the club. Recent form has seen Erik ten Hag’s side go four games unbeaten but three of those matches have ended in draws. Their latest result was a hugely disappointing 1-1 draw at home to 19th placed Burnley. United’s last away game also ended in a draw this time to 10th placed Bournemouth.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Rob Holding and Jefferson Lerma are 50/50 for this game both have hamstrings. Chieck Doucoure may return before the end of the season but nothing is confirmed, Matheus Franca and Sam Johnstone are both out for the season.

Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes and Jonny Evans will both be assessed with a respective knock and a lack of match fitness. Scott McTominay is being tipped to return after a knee injury. Willy Kambwala is set to miss out with a knock but may return next week. Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are all set to be missing for this clash.

Crystal Palace vs Man Utd Prediction:

Crystal Palace are a great price to win this game and they should be taken on. They have done fairly well in recent games and are one of the most in form teams in the league. Also Manchester United are missing a lot of players and it seems like too much quality for us, some of these players missing have been able to make the difference at times in what has been another underwhelming season for United. Palace can be a tough side to face especially at home at the best of times but Glasner has the side not only playing good football but with a good spirit. In short we have one side who respect their manager and are driven and another who look quite frankly like they are wishing for the season to end. United are still United they can cause Palace troubles but if we base our judgements on the past four to five weeks we think Palace can get all of the points.
