Liverpool vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 19th May 2024
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

With Liverpool’s title ambitions long gone the focus in this game will be Jurgen Klopp’s last as Liverpool manager. Indeed, Klopp has said that he will never return to managing in the Premier League given that he wouldn’t manage a rival club, so this will be a momentous day for Klopp and Liverpool fans. No matter what happens in this game it will be absolutely overshadowed by being Klopp’s final one.

Form for Liverpool coming into this game has been patchy but at the end of the day once their league title hopes were over the club has never really been the same. There have been recent draws against West Ham and Aston Villa and a good 4-2 win against Tottenham at Anfield which isn’t to be forgotten. Liverpool are in 3rd place and this is the highest position that they can finish in even with a win here as they are currently seven points behind 2nd placed Arsenal. At home Liverpool has the best home record with 45 points from 54 and they have lost just once here although that did come recently against Crystal Palace. The club will be aiming to score 50 goals at home this season and they need just three more to get to that target.

Wolves are in 13th place with 46 points but they could end up the day as high as 10th although a lot would have to go there way to see that happen. Their lowest position in this term would be 14th. The clubs form coming into this one is not good with four defeats from their last five games and their one win in the middle of this came against Luton. The club has lost their last two games in a row, going down 5-1 at Manchester City and then being beaten 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace.

Team News:

Liverpool: Andrew Robertson is expected to return from a knock, Diogo Jota could be assessed due to recovering from a hip injury. Ben Doak, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are all missing

Wolves: Pablo Sarabia could be assessed for a minor knock and he is being tipped to play. Leon Chiwone and Craig Dawson are both out for the season

Liverpool vs Wolves Prediction:

Emotions will be running high at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp makes his final managerial appearance for Liverpool. It will be a fantastic atmosphere of course lurking in the back are Wolves who could pull the plug out of the party. This would be seen as one of the great surprises if Wolves pulled off anything here. It isn’t that they are a poor club of course but Liverpool’s players will give their absolute best for Klopp on his final match day, and we see only one winner. Liverpool has a fantastic home record and they are scoring goals having notched in 9 in their last three games. The Reds also have a fantastic record over Wolves. Liverpool are huge odds on so let’s look into different markets. We think there will be goals aplenty and the players will be lining up to score in one of those final magic send off days at this famous stadium.
