Luton vs Fulham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 19th May 2024
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Kenilworth Road

Match Preview:

Luton has the chance to join Nottingham Forest on 29 points but unless they can score at least 12 goals they will be officially relegated on Sunday. Of course the club is well prepared and understands that they have gone down before a ball is kicked. It is a shame for the viewer that the goal difference was not closer because it would have changed the whole tone of this game with so much riding on it. Recent form for the Hatters has been poor just when they needed it to be the best of the season and they have only earned 1 point from their last 15. The club's last game ended in a 3-1 loss at West Ham. There is a chance of course that Luton who have been in 18th place for many weeks could actually finish in 19th if they were to lose this game and Burnley were to win their one.

Fulham are in 14th place and with 44 points they cannot finish any lower. Form has been patchy with two draws in their last four games but also two defeats. The Cottagers last game finished in a 4-0 home loss to Manchester City but no one is going to criticise them for that. Overall this has been an average season for Marco Silva’s club as they had promised so much more in the first half of it, but now it seems that there are a lot of tired legs and motivation isn’t the greatest given that they cannot climb fall down places. However a win could see Silva’s side move up 2-3 places and that would be beneficial for Premier League money at the end of the season. However Fulham have struggled on the road this season with just three wins so far although they have managed to go their last two games on the road unbeaten after a win at West Ham and a 0-0 draw against Brentford.

Team News:

Luton: There are no new injuries for the club but the following players are unavailable; Marvelos Nakamba, Tom Lockyer, Daniel Potts, Mads Andersen, Issa Kabore, Reece Burke, Jacob Brown, Amarii Bell and Ross Barkley.

Fulham: Issa Diop is suspended and Sasa Lukic is out for the season now with a calf injury.

Luton vs Fulham Head to Head:

The clubs last played each other here in 2021 and the game finished 1-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Fulham won 1-0.

Fulham remain unbeaten against Luton in the last 8 meetings and Luton have not recorded a victory over them since 1998.

There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Luton vs Fulham Prediction:

Fulham have a big edge over Luton and have made their life a misery over the last two decades. Every Luton fan is going to quickly remember when they were beaten 7-0 by the Cottagers only two years ago. As great as that win was, we all understand it was just one of those games and usually results between the two sides are fairly close. Luton, playing their last game at home before returning to the Championship will want to give a good account of themselves and we expect to see a free flowing end to end game, but for experience we are going to go with Fulham for the win who would love to be able to move up a couple of positions.
