Burnley vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 4th May 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

It is thought that if Burnley failed to win this game with the way the fixtures are panning out that they could be the 2nd team to eventually go down. Burnley are in 19th with 24 points and need the 3 points. Recent form has been decent as they have gone their last three games unbeaten but have drawn two of those. Recent games have seen Burnley draw against Brighton and away to Manchester United has to be seen as an impressive result for sure. In between that they did what they had to do against bottom side Sheffield United and went on to thrash them 4-1. Indeed it is just one defeat from their last five but the club needs wins. At home so far the Clarets have the second to worst record in the Premier League with just 2 wins at home and have won just 10 points from 51 on offer. However they haven’t lost here since Bournemouth visited two months ago.

Newcastle are in line for a European place although that looks like being in the third tier of the competition, the Conference League. Chelsea and West Ham remain a threat for that position though. Overall recent form has been good with 3 wins from their last four although the Magpies did lose their last away game and were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace. Last weekend they were able to thrash Sheffield United 5-1 at home but away form has really hindered the club this season. On the road Newcastle would be in 15th place and have won just 4 games while losing 10 and even recent away form has been poor with 3 defeats from their last four games.

Burnley vs Newcastle Prediction:

Surely this is their own personal Champions League final and Burnley has the advantage of being the home side. They have to win this game but at the same time we have seen just how poor the club has been at home this season. The luck is that they will face a side who haven’t travelled well at all and one would feel that if this Burnley side apply themselves well they should have every chance of a victory here. Of course even despite all of their injuries Newcastle are the superior team, and they can turn it on at times but certainly the club has been much much stronger at home. So what gives? Burnley have been very susceptible to draws this season and certainly in the last few weeks too, so a draw could be a good option for this game but it is a risky one. There could be some heavy hitters coming back into the Newcastle squad and because Burnley has so much to play for they could end up leaving gaps, and we know how powerfully attacking this Newcastle side is. We think the away side could well take advantage of Burnley’s tensions surrounding this game.
