Wolves vs Liverpool: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th September 2023
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves have not started the season well with 3 defeats from four and they come into this weekend in 15th place. Just before the international break they were beaten 3-2 by Crystal Palace and they have also suffered losses against Brighton and Manchester United. However because of how the fixtures have played out so far the club have only played one game at home so far, that was the loss to Brighton in a game that ended 4-1 to the Seagulls so Wolves will be looking to make up for that. The problem of course is the strength and quality of their visitors and they will be expected to lose their 4th game of the season. The club have also faced a headache off the field as they lost- against their wishes Matheus Nunes to Manchester City, but the games are going to come thick and fast now and they will quickly need to find some consistency.

For Liverpool they haven’t always played well but they are getting the results in their last game which was a solid 3-0 win over Aston Villa they showed flashes of how dangerous they can be in attack. Jurgen Klopp’s side are in 3rd place with 10 points and because this is the early kick off they would go into 1st place with a win. Only Manchester City have better form and the Reds have won their last 3 games in a row. Their last away game was an impressive 2-1 win over Newcastle and for now the club have amongst the best defence in the league with just 3 gaols conceded so far from their opening four games.

Team News:

Wolves: Tommy Doyle has a knock and will be assessed, Joseph Hodge remains a doubt with a hamstring injury.

Liverpool: Virgil van Dijk is suspended and not due back for another 10 days, Trent Alexander-Arnold will be assessed due to a hamstring injury. Ibrahima Konate has a muscle injury and is due to miss out and Thiago Alcantara has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and may miss this game.

Wolves vs Liverpool Head to Head:

Last season in this fixture Wolves ran out 3-0 winners.

Liverpool have won 9 of the last 11 meetings against Wolves.

It’s been 18 games since we have seen a 0-0 result between the two sides.

Wolves vs Liverpool Prediction:

This looks like being advantage Liverpool from the beginning and even though Wolves surprised the Reds in this fixture last season history is heavily leaning on a Liverpool win. The Reds have really played some good free flowing and attacking football in their last two games and while they went into this season with some uncertainties they are finding their footing now. It was important that Salah stayed in the end and that will underline his commitment to the club for now. It was also important that he scored in the last game.

Wolves look a bit broken but had a week or so due to the international break to try to get back to basics. These games can be very close and time and again whilst we have seen Liverpool victories it has usually been just one goal in it when Liverpool have played away. We will be backing the Reds to march on and win this game and of course they have an array of quality going forward so we will pick out two players at least to get on the score sheet.
