West Ham vs Man City: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham have started the season in glorious style and thus this game is a top 4 fixture as the teams will do battle in London. Naturally Manchester City will be the favourites to win the game but the Hammers aren’t going to show fear and time and again we have witnessed a side who raise their game against the better sides.

David Moyes' side have started better than expected and are in 4th place and unbeaten so far. They come into this game having won their last 3 in a row with wins over Luton, Brighton and Chelsea. Indeed the only dropped points so far came in their opening season fixture when they drew 1-1 with Bournemouth. The Hammers have looked very confident and have played good football and have even beaten bogey side Brighton this season.

Manchester City are in their favourite position in 1st place and while they started last season slowly there has been intent right off the bat for this one. It’s 4 games and four wins, 11 goals scored and just 2 conceded, it really couldn’t have gone much better for Pep Guardiola’s side and Erling Haaland who lit up the league last season and broke records has already scored a hattrick. That came in City’s last game as they crushed Fulham 5-1. So far away from home has seen an easy 3-0 victory over Burnley and a close 2-1 win over Sheffield United.

Team News:

West Ham: Tomas Soucek suffered a head injury a few weeks ago and has been missing since. He could be in line to return for this game but there has been no updates on his condition. Konstantinos Mavropanos is due to return after fitness issues but will have to be assessed first.

Manchester City: John Stones could return after a muscle injury, Jack Grealish will be assessed due to a thigh injury. Kevin De Bruyne is not due back until December because of his hamstring injury.

West Ham vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season Manchester City won this fixture 2-0.

Manchester City scored 5 goals past West Ham last season without conceding.

It’s been 8 years since West Ham beat Manchester City in a league game.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

West Ham vs Man City Prediction:

There is a gulf between the two clubs but the days of West Ham losing by a large margin over City seem over. Cue this weekend of course but the club should be respected on the evidence we have seen and the fact that they should be solid at home. West Ham have been very good so far which has stopped stories of David Moyes being sacked and his job has been under threat several times this year despite the good transfers, a European trophy and a great start to the season.

City will know they have been in a game at the weekend and this could be a difficult game to call. The Hammers have already beaten Chelsea here this season and while City have plenty of quality to get the job done, this game being an away one will not be easy. It is better therefore to look into different markets and with goals in both of these teams this could be the better market to focus on.
