Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 4th March 2024
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

Life is never easy in the Premier League and with their 3 wins so far from 26 games Sheffield United know this. Looking like they will be relegated this season the Blades will take on one of the very best attacking sides in the league and a team who are chasing the league title in Arsenal and the home side will be very much considered as the underdogs in this Monday evening fixture.

By far Sheffield United have the worst defence in the league with 66 goals conceded, that is the same number of goals that Arsenal and Tottenham have shipped combined. Chris Wilder’s side with 13 points are 11 from safety but really 12 if we count goal difference that no one can see them making up. It would take one of the greatest comebacks we have seen in the English game for the club not to be relegated but they will be determined to give it a shot. Their last game finished in a 1-0 loss away to Wolves and it is 4 defeats from their last five games. At home the Blades have lost 9 games from 13 played with just two wins, their last one coming back in December when they beat Brentford.

Arsenal are 5 points behind the league leaders Liverpool and have Manchester City in between so if they do pull off a title victory surely it will be up there as one of their very best and impressive. This is the Gunners game in hand over Liverpool so a victory is a must to keep in the title chase. Form has been brilliant for Mikel Arteta’s side with five wins in a row and 22 points won from their last 10 games. Goals have been flowing and that is always a good sign. Arsenal thrashed West Ham 6-0 and followed that up with a 5-0 battering of Burnley and then last weekend beat Newcastle 4-1. This is very encouraging and their wins over West Ham and Burnley were away from home. Arsenal have the 3rd best away record in the league with an impressive 8 wins from 13 games and have won their last three away games in a row meaning that they are unbeaten on the road so far this year. The club are also scoring an average of 2 goals per game away from home.

Team News:

Sheffield United: Mason Holgate is suspended, Cameron Archer has a calf injury and won’t return for the next 3 weeks. Anis Ben Slimane is not expected back for at least another three weeks, Chris Basham, John Egan, Max Lowe and Rhys Norrington-Davies are all out long term.

Arsenal: Oleksandr Zinchenko is only 50/50 to return from a calf injury and it is the same situation for Takehiro Tomiyasu. Thomas Partey is being tipped to return but will be assessed because of a lack of match fitness after a lengthy lay off. Jurrien Timber remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal Head to Head:

The sides last met here almost three years ago and Arsenal won 2-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Arsenal won 5-0.

It’s been six games going back almost five years since Sheffield United beat Arsenal that is their only win in the last 8 meetings.

There is a 70% success rate to see over 2.5 goals.

Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal Prediction:

Out of all of the games this week in the Premier League this is the one that looks like an away banker. Sheffield United will fight and try and try to set up a side who frustrate Arsenal but we cannot see them holding out even for a draw and we expect Arsenal to put at least 3 goals past them. The Gunners are on fire and they know what has to be done given that both their title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have already played. We expect Arsenal to be utterly dominant against a side who will have pride but have simply been too poor for Premier League standards. Arsenal are huge odds on and no one will be backing them, so it is a case of looking into different markets.
