Match Preview:

In a sense Nottingham Forest are trying to prove a point that if you come up from the Championship then survival in your first season back is down to buying a lot of players and hedging your bets that way. So far is anyone yet to be convinced? On one hand if the season finished now it would be job done for Forest but only by 2 points and the overall feeling has to be that the risk may not work out.

Nottingham Forest come into this weekend in a safe position of 16th but they could be in the bottom three by the end of it. There has to be worries too given that there have been no wins in their last five and just 2 points won from their last 15. Forest have lost their last two games after defeats against Tottenham and Newcastle although it could be argued that those teams are simply out of the clubs reach quality wise. The good news for Forest of course would be a win and they have the same points as 15th placed Everton and have a game in hand over the Toffees. At home the news is better and 20 of their 26 points have come this way, they did lose their last home game which came against Newcastle but it was only their 4th so far and in general they have been difficult to beat here.

Wolves are in 13th place and one would think that is a safe position- not this season and the club are far from out of trouble and only 3 points from the bottom three. The worry for Wolves after a bright start under Julen Lopetegui is that form has taken a turn for the worse and they have lost three of their last four games including back to back losses coming into this one. Those defeats came against Newcastle and Leeds. Indeed the Leeds defeat was a disappointing one given it was at home and they lost that one 4-2. On the road Wolves have just two wins and it’s been six weeks since their last win which came against bottom club Southampton and so the omens of picking up three points do not look good for them.

Team News:

Nottingham Forest: Serge Aurier will be assessed with a knock but is only 50/50, Taiwo Awoniyi has recovered finally from injury but has some fitness issues and will be assessed. Andre Ayew is 50/50 to return after a knee injury, Emmanuel Dennis is being tipped to be fine after a knock. Willy Boly is out until May at least with his hamstring, Dean Henderson remains out with a thigh injury. Brennan Johnson is only 50/50 to return and may not be risked due to his groin injury, Chiekhou Kouyate has fitness issues and will have to be assessed after a lengthy lay off. Scott McKenna may miss out again because of his hamstring, Ryan Yates looks set to miss out with a shoulder injury and Chris Wood has been ruled out for the season after returning from international duty not able to shake off his thigh injury.

Wolves: Hugo Bueno has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and may miss out. Hwang Hee-Chan is out with a muscle injury. Jonny is serving a 3 game ban after his red card in the last game.

Nottm Forest vs Wolves Head to Head:

The two teams met recently in this fixture at the City Ground in the EFL Cup and it ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Wolves won 1-0.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Nottm Forest vs Wolves Prediction:

Like Brighton’s game with Brentford this could be a close, low scoring and physical game. The teams are close to one another and may settle for a draw and history says this could be a close one with few goals scored. Forest have been solid at home and that has to be respected but there are many doubts over the amount of injuries they have sustained and while their huge injury list may be reduced after individual assessements there is still the chance that a huge bulk of the squad could miss out, last minute team news should be checked.

We will back Forest on the double chance because Wolves have hit some poor form but perhaps the international break has come at the right time for them. It should be a close game with not much in it and it could well be a huge three points for the home side but both teams will know they have been in a battle.
