Liverpool vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 24th September 2023
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Liverpool are unbeaten so far and have won their last 4 games and they have only dropped points in their opening game away to Chelsea. The Reds have had a near perfect start and are scoring goals and have netted 12 so far. Their last game ended in a 3-1 win over Wolves and they have scored six goals in their last two league games. The most important thing for Liverpool is that they are in the chase unlike last season and are only two points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool have played two home games so far with victories over Aston Villa and Bournemouth but the visit of West Ham could prove to be a sterner test. In midweek it was back to European football for Jurgen Klopp’s side but unlike most seasons it wasn’t in the Champions League so playing in the Europa League feels like a whole new experience for them. It started off to a winning start as they beat LASK away from home 3-1.

West Ham have started the season well and have 10 points and are in 6th place and if they were to win here they would have a chance on goal difference to go past the Reds. The Hammers have only lost one game so far which was their last one going down 3-1 at home to Manchester City. While the club would have been disappointed given that they were leading that game most teams will lose to City this season and the thinking with the club will be to move on quickly from that experience. The defeat ended in a 3 game winning run which witnessed victories over Luton, Brighton and Chelsea.

In midweek West Ham won their first game in the Europa League as they beat FK Backa Topola 3-1. The Hammers were widely expected to win the game but had found themselves a goal down before coming back.

Team News:

Liverpool: Trent Alexander-Arnold is 50/50 to return from his hamstring injury and will be assessed. Thiago Alcantara has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and isn’t expected back this weekend.

West Ham: Jarrod Bowen missed out in midweek due to illness and will be assessed. Aaron Cresswell has a hamstring injury and will be assessed but remains a doubt.

Liverpool vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season Liverpool won this meeting 1-0.

Liverpool have won 11 of the last 13 meetings including the last three in a row.

It’s been 8 years since West Ham beat Liverpool away from home.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Liverpool vs West Ham Prediction:

Liverpool have a fantastic record over West Ham home and away and they will be the favourites of course to win this game. The Reds look focused and on their game and are scoring goals and this looks like not only a tricky game for West Ham but a dangerous one as Liverpool have been scoring goals. At the same time the last two league games between the sides here have both finished 1-0.

West Ham will be solid and well set up but manager David Moyes has a traditionally poor record over the top six sides and we expect the Reds to march on with another three points. With Liverpool being odds on and not the best value a good market to back could be the "-1 asian handicap" market and there are, as ever, a plethora of goalscorers to back this weekend.

Liverpool vs West Ham Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Liverpool) at 1.57

Anytime goalscorer: Mohamed Salah at 1.91

Anytime goalscorer: Diogo Jota at 2.50
