Liverpool vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 31st March 2024
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Before the break Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United in an epic match in which they were pegged back several times and lost 4-3. However in the league Jurgen Klopp will want to go out on a high and the Reds who are in 2nd place but have the same points as 1st placed Arsenal are right in the mix to challenge for the league title. It has come down to 3 teams and any one of them has a great chance but this weekend could feel like glory or a hammer blow to one of these sides.

Liverpool will be the favourites to pick up their 20th win of the season and they have the best home record in the Premier League with 36 points won from 42 alongside Manchester City they are the only side unbeaten so far at home. With 38 goals scored that is the best attack at home and they have the joint best defence at home also with 12 goals conceded. Liverpool’s last home game did end in the rare scenario of dropping points as they drew 1-1 with Manchester City.

Brighton are chasing Europe and come into this game in 8th place with 42 points. Results recently have been mixed and it’s just one win from their past three games although that was a victory just before the break as they overcame Nottingham Forest. But Brighton have certainly not been as strong as they were at the end of last year and it will be a real battle for them in a crowded pack to finish in a desired European place. Away from home the Seagulls have lost 50% of their games and won four times but recent form has nosedived with three defeats from their past four games and they have come against Luton, Tottenham and Fulham.

Team News:

Liverpool: Alisson is out with a hamstring injury, Trent Alexander-Arnold is not due back for another week as he recovers from a knee injury, it is the same problem for Diogo Jota. Darwin Nunez has a good chance to play as he has recovered from a hamstring injury, Curtis Jones is just 50/50 due to a shin injury. Andrew Robertson will be assessed due to his ankle but is being tipped to return, Thiago Alcantara remains out with a muscle injury

Brighton: Joao Pedro and James Milner face being assessed ahead of the game as they try to recover from injury but both are only rated at 50/50 to do so. Jack Hinshelwood is out with a foot injury, Kaoru Mitoma has a back injury and he could end up missing the rest of the season

Liverpool vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season the teams shared a six goal thriller as this fixture finished 3-3.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the sides drew 2-2.

Liverpool have not beaten Brighton in the last four games going back 2 years.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Liverpool vs Brighton Prediction:

Although Brighton have caused Liverpool much distress over the last couple of years they are suffering from some key injuries and form issues and we expect Liverpool to get the job done. This is the business end of the season and home games must all be won now when you are in such a position. Liverpool will be strong and we do not see any other outcome other than a victory for Klopp’s side. They are priced up at 1.30 for that which is going to put people off so the handicap might be the best option to go for here.

Mohamed Salah is always going to be a favourite to score goals especially at home and that should come as no surprise but he did score a brace against Brighton when the teams met in the league a few months ago. Darwin Nunez will be looking to get on the score sheet also as Liverpool count the loss of Diogo Jota.

Liverpool vs Brighton Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Liverpool) at 1.54

First goalscorer: Mohamed Salah at 4.00

Anytime goalscorer: Darwin Nunez at 2.00
