Fulham vs Luton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

The new campaign started well for Fulham when they recorded a win away against Everton but ever since then the Cottagers have failed to win. Their best result in the last few weeks has been a 2-2 draw at Arsenal which was indeed excellent however that one was followed up by a 5-1 demolition job at Manchester City. However, is there more to Marco Silva’s side? Let’s remember that the game at City was held at 1-1 before VAR plainly made a mistake in letting City score their second goal and how many teams are going to get any points having to face Arsenal and City away on the bounce?

The truth is that Fulham will be expected to win this game at home to Luton and it will be a welcome return for Silva’s side who have not played in front of their own fans for almost a month. Luton were the bookmakers favourites to be relegated at the beginning of the season and the market doesn’t look wrong as the club come into this game in 19th place and have 0 points from 3 games played. It’s 2 goals scored and 9 conceded so far and even Chelsea who despite their millions spent have struggled so far put 3 goals past them. In their last game before the international break they only lost 2-1 against an inform West Ham side but for now the struggle looks real for the newly promoted side.

Team News:

Fulham: Tom Cairney has a knock but will be assessed, Sasa Lukic also has a knock but he seems more of a doubt to return for this match

Luton: Jordan Clark remains out with an ankle injury, Tom Lockyer will be assessed as he recovers from a thigh injury. Alfie Doughty has a knock and will be assessed. Gabriel Osho is recovering well from a knee injury but it is expected that this game will come too soon for him. Daniel Potts remains sidelined with a long term ankle injury

Fulham vs Luton Head to Head:

The last time the teams played here was a nightmare for Luton back in 2022 as Fulham destroyed them 7-0.

It’s been 8 games going back to 1998 since Luton recorded a win over Fulham.

There is a 70% chance to see over 3.5 goals

Fulham vs Luton Prediction:

Fulham have a terrific record over Luton not just in recent times but even when we go back to the 1980s and 1970s, Luton have managed the odd win but especially when Fulham have been at home there has only been one winner. These fixtures have produced many goals too and the Cottagers have put 14 of them alone past Luton in the last four meetings. Fulham have blown hot and cold this season, one is reminded of their 2-2 battling comeback away to Arsenal which felt like a better result than their victory over Everton, but for those results is the 3-0 loss right here against Brentford and if Luton were to get anything from this game the pressure would be on Fulham in the coming weeks.

Luton have shown some glimpses of fight in them but they have looked overwhelmed at times too and while Fulham may not set the Premier League alight this season this remains a tough fixture and historically a difficult one for the visitors. They should be spared 7-0 blushes but still we only see one winner in this game and you should be backing the home side to get maximum points.
