Crystal Palace vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 21st April 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Last weekend was probably the greatest result of Oliver Glasner’s career so far as his Crystal Palace side stunned title chasing Liverpool away from home to beat them 1-0. That win will mean that Palace are safe for this season and with 33 points they are 8 points clear of the bottom three. In reality Palace can only finish one place higher in 14th no matter how well they finish in the league and in effect their season is over. But of course at home especially the club will be playing for pride and Glasner needs a strong finish to convince the fans that he is the right man for the job. The Eagles majority result this season has been the loss with 7 so far and that has really hindered them.

West Ham will come into this game with disappointment after being dumped out of the Europa League at the quarter final stage. They were beaten 3-1 on aggregate by Bayer Leverkusen and in the 2nd leg the Hammers were just a couple of minutes from becoming the first team this season to beat Leverkusen in any game, it wasn’t to be as Leverkusen found a goal and that game finished 1-1, so all round disappointment then.

West Ham come into this game in 8th place and it’s possible that they will be pipped to a European place by Manchester United and a plethora of other clubs are right behind them putting the pressure on. With games running low West Ham need to win this one to keep in the mix. Form has not been good though with too many draws lately and just one victory which was against Wolves, although that was away from home. Last weekend was a disappointment as they were beaten at home by Fulham 2-0.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Will Hughes will be assessed for a knock, Marc Guehi is not expected back for another two weeks due to a knee injury. Joel Ward, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Chris Richards could all be assessed most for fitness issues and have a chance to be included in the squad. Matheus Franca, Sam Johnstone, Jefferson Lerma and Chieck Doucoure are all out long term

West Ham: Nayef Aguerd, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Alphonese Areola and Kalvin Phillips are all in line to play, but will be assessed for low-risk injuries. George Earthy misses out after a head injury but could return next weekend

Crystal Palace vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season Crystal Palace won 4-3.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the clubs drew 1-1.

West Ham have only 1 win from the past five meetings.

The last 13 meetings in a row have all seen both teams to score.

Crystal Palace vs West Ham Prediction:

Crystal Palace have proved to be a hard stubborn team for West Ham to beat in recent times although these games do tend to be close ones. We believe being at home and returning as heroes after the Liverpool win will bring out a lot of good vibes within the players who will be feeling the love of the fans. West Ham has the better team but we think they will be suffering from the hangover of their midweek European loss. Palace are a great price to win the game, so get on the Eagles. Get on both teams to score with such a fantastic record as mentioned in the h2h’s also, the price could have been around the 1.44 mark for this but we can get a best 1.60, that might be worth a punt.
