Bournemouth vs Chelsea: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 17th September 2023
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Vitality Stadium

Match Preview:

Bournemouth are searching for their first win and they have only managed 2 points from a possible 12. Their two defeats did come against quality in Liverpool and Tottenham and they would have been games that observers would have expected the club to lose. The Cherries have also drawn at home to West Ham and in their latest game they drew 2-2 at Brentford, which has been their most impressive result so far.

The club would have been in the net to be one of the teams to struggle this season and they are justifying that claim currently and sit in 16th place and have conceded 8 goals already.

While Bournemouth can be recognised as the underdogs for this match up it is true that Chelsea have looked low on confidence and ideas despite huge amounts of money spent in the summer. There is a real quality in the team but they still look like a side getting used to one another which would make sense given how so many players have been thrown together. For now there is an underwhelming feeling about the Blues and that isn’t good news given that they have a new manager in Mauricio Pochettino. Football does change quickly though and if the Blues were to win at the weekend and start picking up victories over the next few weeks the whole mindset would change. For now everyone will be looking at the fact that the Blues have won one game- an expected one at home to Luton but in their last match they were beaten 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest. One would believe that Pochettino was thankful for the international break, but headaches remain.

Team News:

Bournemouth: There are no new injuries for the Cherries however the following are out long term: Tyler Adams, Emiliano Marcondes, Ryan Fredericks and Alex Scott.

Chelsea: Beniot Badiashelle remains out but could be back next week due to fitness issues. An update on Marcus Bettinlini suggests he could return in 2 weeks as he recovers from a knee injury. Armando Broja is likely to miss out again due to a lack of match fitness. Carney Chukwwuemeka, Christopher Nkunku and Wesley Fofana are out long term with a knee injury. Reece James is not due back for 3 weeks because of his hamstring injury. Romeo Lavia has no fixed return date with his ankle injury.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Last season Chelsea won this fixture 3-1.

Chelsea have been able to avoid defeat in the last three meetings.

For the last six meetings there has been a pattern of under/over goals. If this was to continue then this meeting would be under 2.5 goals.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea Prediction:

Although Bournemouth lack quality at the highest level they have still started the season sluggish and scored just 1 goal at home in their two games played. It is early days but this isn’t a good sign. They did play well away to Brentford but they will need to improve at home if they have any chance of staying up this season. Chelsea are odds on but decent value too but at the same time not many punters will have much confidence in this team.

However Chelsea are full of proven internationals and if they click then backing them at 1.80 to win will look like an easy choice. Chelsea have played some good football but they are lacking belief and we haven’t seen much of Bournemouth to convince us that they won’t be struggling in the bottom half of the table. From seasons gone past this would have been an away win for us, for now it still is but with caution.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea Betting Tips:

Chelsea to beat Bournemouth at 1.80

Anytime goalscorer: Raheem Sterling at 2.50

Under 2.5 goals at 1.80
