Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa have won 2 and lost 2 since the beginning of the season and already we have witnessed that Unai Emery’s side may well struggle against the better sides this season. The two losses were fairly heavy in a 5-1 result at Newcastle and then a 3-0 defeat at Liverpool. In truth not many teams will come away with three points in those fixtures but Villa have certainly had a couple of early wake up calls.

There has been some delight though and when they aren’t shipping goals Emery’s side can score them. They have gone to Burnley a few weeks ago and beat them 3-1 and at home they battered Everton 4-0. At home against Crystal Palace one would think that Villa will be ready and prepared and will be confident of the win. It should be noted that the club are only about to play their second home game of the season.

Crystal Palace have started well by all accounts with just 1 defeat from their first four games and they come into this game in 7th place with seven points. Before the international break they were involved in an entertaining game which finished in a 3-2 win over Wolves. So far the Eagles are unbeaten away from home with victory over Sheffield United and a 1-1 draw against Brentford. Their only defeat came at home to Arsenal and that game ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat. Palace on the evidence of what we have seen so far look like a tough outfit to beat and if they keep this up they may well finish in the top half of the table.

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Last season Aston Villa won this fixture 1-0.

It’s been 10 years since Crystal Palace managed to beat Aston Villa away from home.

In the last 21 meetings there has only been one game to finish 0-0.

4 of the last five meetings have seen both teams to score.

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

This is a good, attacking Aston Villa side and the club would have been frustrated that a month of the new season has played out and they have only been able to play one home game so far. There are goals in Emery’s side although they may find Crystal Palace a tougher team to crack than Everton we expect Villa to get the points here. Vila also have a very strong record over Palace especially at home and this hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Eagles.

Ollie Watkins is a player who comes to mind to back to score for the home side and he has got off his mark this season and has scored a few goals against Palace in recent games. However for a smaller stake you may find great value in backing John McGinn for Villa who has found a knack of getting on the score sheet against Palace too.

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer: Ollie Watkins at 2.50

Anytime goalscorer: John McGinn at 4.00
