Aston Villa vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 21st April 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa will be the favourites to win this game and after going to Arsenal and beating them 2-0 you would think this would be a shoe in for victory here. Villa were involved in a long Europa League Conference quarter final 2nd leg match against Lille in France but they came through that on penalties but one would think it may affect the energy of the players for this match. Villa are in 4th place and are 3 points clear of Tottenham although they have played a game more and so could easily be caught up, Villa has a 3 goal advantage to Tottenham though and have to be considered favourites to land that 4th spot. Recent form has been patchy with 8 points won from their last 15 on offer and points have been dropped at home after such a fantastic record in the first half of the season. The club's last home game finished in a 3-3 draw against Brentford.

Bournemouth are in 13th with 42 points and while a fantastic last run of wins may well get them a surprise European finish the odds of that happening are slim and we expect the Cherries to finish in the bottom half of the table. With that being said it's been a solid season for the club in many ways and forward Dominic Solanke has had a blinder of a season. The club have good recent form with just one loss in their last five games and their latest match ended in a 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United. They are a solid outfit and at home they are unbeaten for two months, though their last away game did end in defeat to Luton.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Douglas Luiz is suspended but will be back next week. Alex Moreno misses out with a calf injury and looks set to miss the next 2 weeks at least. Jacob Ramsey, Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and Emiliano Buendia are all out for the season

Bournemouth: Tyler Adams and Chris Mepham are only 50/50 to return from a respective back injury and illness. Luis Sinisterra and Marc Tavernier will not return for between 3-4 weeks at the earliest, Ryan Fredericks now looks set to miss the rest of the season with a calf injury

Aston Villa vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Last season Aston Villa won this fixture 3-0.

Earlier in the season the two sides were involved in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

Aston Villa vs Bournemouth Prediction:

Aston Villa have had a tiring week but they have a fantastic opportunity to extend their lead over Tottenham and being at home we think they can do this. There is no quarter given in the Premier League and even though the Cherries won’t be playing for much if Villa are not at 100% they will drop points here. Home form has suffered more lately but this is a determined side who don’t have to worry about European football next week. Villa are a great price to win the game and we think they will take maximum points.

Ollie Watkins has a great chance to surprise everyone and finish as top goalscorer for the season and he will be up for this game since his main rivals for that award are either out of form or feeling tired. So we will back him to get on the score sheet which he has already done against the same opponent.
