Man Utd vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd October 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

The lunch time kick off should see a very fast paced and intense match as these two great teams go head to head and what will be a sold out Old Trafford.

Manchester United have started the season well and come into this game in 4th place after winning four of their opening six games. They are just a point behind league leaders Liverpool. Despite starting well enough though there have been quite a few concerns about the Red Devils performances. In short they have been fairly flat.

This is going to put pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has one of the best attacking forward line ups in the Premier League. To give an example in the last week United have been beaten at home by Aston Villa and also went out of the EFL Cup at home to West Ham. In midweek in the Champions League, again at home they beat Villarreal 2-1 thanks to a 95th minute goal from Cristiano Ronaldo. But that game was heading for a draw and they had trailed at one point. You get the sense that even though some results are coming in and Ronaldo as ever is scoring goals there have been too many moments of papering over the cracks.

Everton like their hosts have had a solid start to the campaign and have the same points and are only in 5th place due to goal difference. Form has been good with just 1 defeat in their past five and that is the clubs only defeat so far. After losing 3-0 to Aston Villa, Everton needed to bounce back with a win and they did so last weekend at home beating bottom placed Norwich 2-0. With some key players injured in Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin that victory was welcomed.

Team News:

Manchester United: Harry Maguire is struggling with a calf injury and will be assessed but looks like a doubt. Luke Shaw has a knock and will face a late test. Marcus Rashford is due back in two weeks time from his shoulder injury.

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is touch and go to be back for this game and will have a late assessment after his muscle injury. Andre Gomes is a doubt with a calf strain. Seamus Coleman won’t return for another two weeks due to his hamstring. Richarlison isn’t due back for another two weeks because of an injury to his knee. Fabian Delph remains out with a shoulder injury.

Man Utd vs Everton Head to Head:

Last season we were treated to a 6 goal thriller as the game finished 3-3.

Everton haven’t won at Manchester United since 2013.

4 of the last 5 meetings has seen both teams to score.

In the last four meetings Manchester United have scored 9 goals against Everton and 7 of those have come by either Edinson Cavani or Bruno Fernandes.

Man Utd vs Everton Prediction:

This would already be a tough game for the strongest Everton side but the club will come depleted of some of their better known names. However some players have really stood up this season like Demarai Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure. Andros Townsend has had a solid start to his Everton career too, and Everton do not come here thinking they are the underdogs, and can make life difficult for United.

One advantage Everton have over their opponents is that Rafa Benitez comes into this game with no pressure over his head and the same cannot be said about Solskjaer, everything is being analysed in microscopic detail. United will be the favourites though and will have plenty of chances. One would expect an improved performance from them, and if a team like this click and being at home then it will be difficult for most sides to get the points.

Still the odds of 1.50 being quoted for a home win don’t strike as great value given the clubs recent struggles, however that can be increase at no extra risk using a "-1 asian handicap".
