Aston Villa vs Chelsea: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th April 2024
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Aston Villa has the chance to go 9 points clear of fifth placed Tottenham if they win this game albeit Tottenham would have 3 games in hand but of course there would be no guarantees of winning those games and the psychological shift Villa could impose with victory here one would expect would be huge. Aston Villa look like being the favourites to finish in the top four and they have won their last 2 games in a row beating Arsenal and Bournemouth and scoring 5 goals in those games, Unai Emery has done a rather fantastic job so far at the club. Villa also have a European semi-final coming up so there is much to look forward to. While Villa have lost their way slightly at home in the second half of the season they still have a superb home record here having won 12 of their 17 games so far.

Chelsea are in 9th place with 47 points and after beating Everton 6-0 they followed that up with a 5-0 loss against Arsenal and the knives are out again. Form up until the Arsenal game did look to be improving but the Blues would have raised more question marks over the past week and their chances for European football or even finishing in the top half of the table have really taken a hit. On the road this season the majority result has been the loss with seven games so far but they have no wins on the road since beating Crystal Palace ten weeks ago. Chelsea could go past West Ham this weekend with a win here so not all is lost but many observers will see Aston Villa as the team to beat in this game.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Emiliano Buendia, Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and Jacob Ramsey are all out. Alex Moreno is not due to return until next week from a calf injury. Nicolo Zaniolo is out with a knock but may be assessed

Chelsea: Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Raheem Sterling and Levi Colwill all look like missing out but could return next week. Reece James is nearing a return but has fitness issues and may just miss out. Romeo Lavia, Christoper Nkunku, Wesely Fofana and Enzo Fernandez are all out long term

Aston Villa vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Chelsea have won the last 3 meetings when playing Aston Villa away from home.

Chelsea have only won once in the last four meetings.

4 of the last 5 meetings have seen under 2.5 goals.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea Prediction:

The clubs did meet here only in February in the EFL Cup and Chelsea won 3-1 but we don’t think that should be taken into account. Granted Chelsea has recorded some good victories here of late but they keep having the bad luck of key injuries and it is going to take its toll against quality sides away from home. Aston Villa just look assured and solid and we don’t see them dropping points here and we expect Emery’s side to win. Maybe one doubt is that their European game will be on their minds but Champions League football next season will be their huge desire. Villa are playing a hollow Chelsea side that can turn up at moments during the season but this should be a very difficult fixture for the London side to navigate and we predict a home win.
