Everton vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th April 2024
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

After a nightmare season it seems that Everton are very very close to being safe for another season. Everton pulled off their first win over Liverpool at home in 13 years in midweek as they shocked the Reds to win 2-0. Everton have climbed onto 33 points and gone 8 clear of the bottom three. The result was also Jurgen Klopp’s first loss at Everton and of course his final game managing a club there. Midweek was a small glimmer of joy for the club and their fans as safety almost looks assured now and at the same time they have probably finished Liverpool’s title chances too.

Everton of course must focus on themselves though and there is still a job to be done with four games left to play. Everton come into this weekend having the rare distinction of winning back to back games this season and they have also won 3 of their last four games. Everton are in 16th place and play 15th placed Brentford and a home win would push Sean Dyche’s side past the Bees. It’s been good for Everton to have a succession of home games as they also beat Nottingham Forest here recently.

Brentford will be safe and are two points ahead of their hosts, it did look touch and go for a while but like Everton they managed to put some quick results together beating Sheffield United and stuffing Luton and they have gone unbeaten for their last five games. The Bees are four points behind 14th placed Crystal Palace and on the road they have lost 11 of their 17 games played so far. However Thomas Frank’s side has managed to go their last two away games unbeaten with the win over Luton but also an impressive 3-3 draw against Aston Villa.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is ill but will be assessed and is being tipped to be fine. Vitaliy Mykolenko is set to miss out with an ankle injury sustained in the Merseyside derby. Seamus Coleman is back in training but this game may come too soon for him. Beto is expected to miss out again due to his head injury but he might be able to return next weekend. Dele Alli has been ruled out for the season with a groin injury and Nathan Patterson is also out for the season with a hamstring injury

Brentford: Ivan Toney will be assessed for a hip injury, Neal Maupay cannot face his parent club. Joshua Dasilva, Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey and Ben Mee are all out for the season

Everton vs Brentford Head to Head:

Last season Everton won this fixture 1-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Everton won 3-1.

4 of the last five games have seen both teams to score.

Everton vs Brentford Prediction:

There should be a good atmosphere here almost like an end of season game, because both sides come into this one with some good form and will be feeling upbeat. There will be confidence too and both clubs who have flirted with danger will be thinking of safety now. Although it is true Everton would love another win under their belt to confirm this and we think they can do that at home. Look out for Dominic Calvert-Lewin who seems to have regained his fitness and looks sharp and hungry although in fact he did play through illness in the Liverpool game and will need to be assessed here, if ready we should back him to score again. He has scored plenty in the last month compared to earlier in the season and looks well on it.
