Chelsea vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 11th September 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Just from the few weeks that we have witnessed it is evident that Chelsea see themselves as Premier League contenders and why not after conquering Europe.

The Blues have started in solid fashion and would possibly have had a 100% start to the season had they not ended up with 10 players at Liverpool before the break. Still manager Thomas Tuchel would have been delighted when the dust had settled to have seen his club hold on for a 1-1 draw against the Reds and away from home, that is no easy task.

Chelsea look strong in every department and Romelu Lukaku looks in his best shape of his career, he will score many goals this season and this particular game at home does seem set up for the Belgian to do his business.

Aston Villa impressed last season and even though they have lost Jack Grealish they are a club who have spent well in the summer, and seem to have aggressive tactics behind the scenes to recruit quality players, in that sense Dean Smith’s side reminds one of Leicester, though of course not at their level, but there is clear ambition with the club to not just make up the numbers.

Villa’s last game finished 1-1 against Brentford and given that they were at home Smith’s side would not have been happy with the final result. Still they come into this game in 11th place and are undefeated in their last two.

Team News:

Chelsea: Reece James is suspended for this game after his red card at Liverpool. N’Golo Kante is a doubt with his ankle and will be assessed. Romelu Lukaku has a slight thigh injury and will also be assessed.

Aston Villa: Leon Bailey has recovered from his hamstring and is expected to return for this game. Bertrand Traore is due back from his hamstring.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

Chelsea have won 6 of the last 8 meetings however Aston Villa are undefeated against the Blues in the last two games.

The last 4 meetings have all seen both sides to score.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Chelsea are big favourites to win and we think they will do so. The problem for Aston Villa is they have a leaky defence and the Blues are going to get in behind them and Lukaku will have plenty of chances, this is if he plays as he is a slight doubt. But Chelsea have many other players who can step up to the plate.

The odds on a Chelsea win are not great so we might look into the HT/FT result. Could some key players be a little tired after international travelling? There is great value in the draw at half time but a Chelsea win. If Lukaku plays we believe he will score and he is also a decent price to get a goal.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:

Half Time/Full Time: Draw/Chelsea at 4.00

Anytime goalscorer: Romelu Lukaku at 1.66
