Burnley vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th March 2024
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Turf Moor

Match Preview:

Burnley are not only in 19th place but are 11 points from safety if we include goal difference and Vincent Kompany’s side have looked like being relegated for some time now. There is of course still time to survive and there are 30 points left on the board for the Clarets. They really need to start winning their home games if they want to have a challenge of staying in the Premier League and at least last week the club were able to stop an awful run by claiming a draw against West Ham away from home. However it is questionable how Kompany’s side felt after a game that had finished 2-2 when they were 2 goals up at half time. In a sense even a draw away from home probably felt like a loss.

Burnley’s last home game finished in a 2-0 loss against Bournemouth and at home they have the poorest record in the league with just one win and 5 points won from 42. They have managed to draw two of their last four games here but have still lost two in a row at home coming into this fixture. Brentford are in 15th place and have 26 points, they are heading for safety and yet it is a hard one to call being just five points above the bottom three. Form has been a worry for the club with just 1 point earned from their last 15 on offer. The club's last game ended in a 2-1 defeat away to Arsenal and they were able to give Mikel Arteta’s team quite a scare. But recently there is no defending the club's form which has suffered. On the road it’s 10 losses from 14 games and they come into this one having lost their last 3 away games in a row. Defence away from home has been impressive for the position that they are in and conceding just 23 times isn’t the worst record, the likes of West Ham and Chelsea have shipped more away from home this season.

Team News:

Burnley: Jordan Beyer is unlikely to return with an ongoing knock, Lyle Foster also remains a doubt with a muscle injury. Han-Noah Massengo will be assessed and could return.

Brentford: Sergio Regulion is being tipped to be fine despite suffering what appears to be a minor hamstring injury. Ethan Pinnock is sidelined with an ankle injury but should return in 2 weeks. Bryan Mbeumo has a lack of match fitness but could return. Christian Norgarrd is out with a back injury with no fixed return date. Ben Mee, Joshua Dasilva, Kevin Schade and Aaron Hickey are all out long term and all look set to miss the rest of the season.

Burnley vs Brentford Head to Head:

The clubs last played here in 2021 and Burnley came out the victors with a 3-1 win.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brentford won 3-0.

Burnley have won 5 of the past 7 meetings however Brentford has won the last two.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Burnley vs Brentford Prediction:

This may not be a fixture this season where you think about goals, but the fixture has a good history to see goals and it is good value in the market. Burnley need to go at their opponents and we know there are some goals in this side who of course recently put 2 past West Ham away from home. We keep saying this week in and week out but Burnley need to take leads in games but keep them. Frustratingly for them they have not been able to be focused for 100% of the game and this keeps biting back at them. Brentford need a couple of more wins and soon to feel safe. Form has not been good for both sides but it remains hard to take Burnley on, it should be an easier decision given that they are at home but with such a dreadful record we are tempted to think that the Bees could get something out of this one.
