Man City vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

Manchester City bounced back in style after they were stunned at home against Crystal Palace by winning the Manchester derby just before the international break. It was a fantastic response from the champions who controlled the match and were able to go Old Trafford and win 2-0.

City will be the odds on favourites to win this game at home although recent home form has been hit and miss with just 1 victory here in their last 3 games. The defeat against Palace is coupled up with the 0-0 draw against Southampton at the Etihad so City’s fans haven’t been having it all their own way. However there was a 4-1 win against Club Brugge here in the Champions League between the surprise results. Talking of the Champions League City may have one eye on that game as they will be involved in a super clash against PSG which could well determine who finishes top of the group, three days after this game.

As for their league standing the champions are in 2nd place but only 1 point separates them from 4th place so it's really close up there. Pep Guardiola’s side are 3 points shy of Chelsea in 1st place and with goal difference it would mean that even with victory over Everton Chelsea look set to finish this weekend on the top of the league. On form City would be in 4th place and the club have earned 10 points from their last 15 at home. The huge plus point considering City’s home form is that they have scored 12 goals and conceded just 2 and those two were in the one game against Crystal Palace.

Everton stopped a poor 3 game losing streak just before the international break as they drew 0-0 against Tottenham. Everton put in an assured display limiting Tottenham to zero shots on target even though the Londoners did hit the post near the end of the game. But after conceding 5 goals in their last home game against Watford manager Rafa Benitez would have been delighted that his side not only played the better football but also kept a clean sheet.

Everton’s form means they come into this game in 11th place and are seven points adrift of a top four spot and 11 points behind the leaders Chelsea. Away form is nothing to get excited by either given that it is just one victory so far for Benitez’s team and after starting their travels this season with 4 points from six they have failed to win on the road for three straight games with their last trip ending in a 2-1 defeat against Wolves. Despite form taking a hit an Everton victory would move them back into the top 10.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t been ruled out for a return in this game from his thigh injury but he most likely won’t return until next week. Andre Gomes may be assessed but has a lack of match fitness. Abdoulaye Doucoure has a foot injury and is only 50/50 to make this game and could face a late test. Mason Holgate is suspended for 3 games after his straight red card vs Tottenham. Yerry Mina is being tipped to return after his hamstring injury.

Man City vs Everton Head to Head:

Man City vs Everton Prediction:

Manchester City are huge odds on to win this game and mostly nobody will be choosing a straight home win because of it. True City have a fantastic team and should win the game and they have a recent fantastic record over Everton but there just isn’t any value to be had with the price for a home victory.

We have already mentioned two factors about City and that is their recent home form not being exactly great and also they will have some focus on the PSG game in the Champions League.

Everton will raise their game and will try to forget they conceded five goals at this stadium last time out. Everton have the quality to have their chances and frustrate City too but it is very difficult to go against the champions who will try and quash all memories of their last league home game loss to Crystal Palace. City will want to set themselves up well for their impending Champions League game and Everton will find it very difficult to get anything here.
