Crystal Palace vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 22nd May 2022
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace lost their first game in four in midweek as they were defeated 3-2 at Everton. This wasn’t just any normal game and Everton’s victory kept them in the league. However Palace were left distraught given that they were leading the game 2-0 at half time, and now they have to pick themselves up.

Palace’s best final position this season could be 10th depending on other results but overall given this has been Patrick Vieira’s first managerial job in the Premier League the club have looked solid, some weeks excellent and have become a tough team to beat. At home over the past three months they are undefeated and have been in great form although with caution they have certainly drawn too many games here with the majority of their results at home ending in draws, there have been 8 so far.

Manchester United could still finish up in the Europa Conference League if they don’t win this game. West Ham could pass them if United lose or even draw and the Hammers win. United’s form has not been good with 3 defeats from their last five games and their last match ended in a very poor 4-0 defeat at Brighton. The result sums up United’s season and with all due respect to how Brighton played one has to remember the only club playing for something was United and their talented players have let down the fans yet again.

United currently have the worst away form in the league with 5 straight defeats and it seems a long time since last season where under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer they were undefeated away from home all season. Worryingly United have conceded 11 goals in their last three away games.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: James Tomkins has a knock and looks likely to miss out. Nathan Ferguson is ruled out for the season with a lack of match fitness. James McArthur could be assessed with his muscle injury but remain a major doubt.

Manchester United: Eric Bailly is being tipped to return from his back injury and is back in training. Phil Jones is only 50/50 due to a knock as is Jadon Sancho with the same problem. Luke Shaw is a doubt for personal reasons and Paul Pogba is out for the season with a calf injury.

Crystal Palace vs Man Utd Head to Head:

Last season the clubs drew 0-0 in this fixture.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester United won 1-0.

3 of the last four meetings has ended in under 2.5 goals.

Manchester United have won 6 of the last 10 meetings.

Crystal Palace vs Man Utd Prediction:

This is game where it feels that both teams are all played out. Crystal Palace will certainly not be pushovers and with United we have to ask if they can be trusted anymore, especially away from home. United have had the advantage of a rest in midweek and that could count dividends though. Let’s remember of course that this will be Ralf Rangnick’s last game in charge of the Red Devils and if he has the support of the players they are going to come out here and try their absolute best to get the team over the line and at least qualify for the Europa League.

Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t going to get his wish to finish as top goalscorer but this game being his last competitive one for a while we would expect that he will be on his game and will try and create and have opportunities. Palace will have to dig deep and it has to be questionable after Thursday evening if they have that in them, so we will be backing United to get the points.

Crystal Palace vs Man Utd Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (0.0 Manchester United) at 1.70
