Match Preview:
In midweek West Ham’s Europa League dreams looked in tatters as they lost the 1st leg of their quarter final tie against Bayer Leverkusen 2-0. The game isn’t over yet and with the Hammers being at home in the 2nd leg they will have hope of a comeback but it seems like an uphill task. In the league West Ham are in 8th place with 48 points but still a European finish is far from guaranteed and so it will be interesting to see if David Moyes' side are able to put a good run together or will they fall away. This game against Fulham has come at a difficult time for the club sandwiched in between such a hotly contested European fixture. The Hammers form has been good without being spectacular with just one defeat in their last five games however they have drawn three of those ones. Last weekend they were able to pull off a very good win in beating Wolves 2-1 away from home. At home the majority result has been draws with a staggering seven so far, and that includes their last 3 home games in a row ending in draws.
Fulham are in 13th place and have lost their last two games in a row with defeats against both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle. The team look frankly tired and have only managed to pick up 4 points from the last five games. The club who are on 39 points are more than safe but now look in that position where Europe won’t be able to be achieved this season, and so we can see that the home side is the one with all of the motivation. The Cottagers have really suffered away from home this season with just 2 wins from 16 games played and they have almost gone the last two months without a win on the road.

West Ham: Alphonse Areola, Kalvin Phillips and Konstantinos Mavropanos are all doubts and will be assessed ahead of the game. Jarrod Bowen has been ruled out with a hip injury, he will be assessed next week
Fulham: The Cottagers have no injuries to the first team squad ahead of this game

West Ham will start as the favourites but with all things considered and that all important European 2nd leg taking place just a few days after, it's possible West Ham might not be 100% focused. They do need to push on but they could drop points here and it wouldn’t be the end of the world. We keep thinking back to the fact of how many draws the club has churned up this season and we wouldn’t be surprised if this game went the same way. Draws are risky so we are tempted to back the home side but cover the draw for extra security. We do not expect to see a high quality game and backing low goals could be another smart move.
