Man Utd vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 9th March 2024
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing back to back games against Fulham and Manchester City which has stalled the club in 6th place. West Ham are only two points behind and Newcastle are lurking in the shadows too and it seems that United’s best possible finish this season will be sixth. Last weekend the club were involved in the Manchester derby and had taken a 1-0 lead into half time but as the game wore on City’s relentless attacking and class told in the end and United lost 3-1.

Erik ten Hag’s side are six points adrift of fifth placed Tottenham and the club has just the 10th best home record in the league with 22 points won from 39. While there have been 7 wins at home there should be caution with 5 defeats added, Bournemouth have lost the same amount of games at home and there remains problems at the club that is for sure.

Everton still has no wins in 2024 and that is a major concern for a club who still face an FFP charge soon. Everton are 5 points clear of the bottom three having gotten back four of their points from the first charge. Last weekend was interesting for Everton because despite yet another defeat which came at home at the hands of West Ham in a game that finished 3-1 all remained the same for the Toffees. Nottingham Forest and Luton the two clubs just below them both lost, but Everton are not always going to get away with it. On the road Everton have lost 5 but won 5 and their last match on the road finished in a 1-1 draw with Brighton, the club would rank in 9th place based on away form alone.

Team News:

Manchester United: Rasmus Hojlund is out for at least three weeks with a muscle injury, Harry Maguire could be assessed to return from a knock. Lisandro Martinez will not return until the end of the month from a knee injury. Aaron Wan Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial and Mason Mount are all out long term with no fixed return dates.

Everton: Idrissa Gueye is nearing a return from a groin injury but is only 50/50 to make this game and looks a doubt. Arnaut Danjuma and Dele Alli are both out long term with respective ankle and groin injuries.

Man Utd vs Everton Head to Head:

Last season Manchester United won this fixture 2-0.

Manchester United have won the last four meetings in a row.

Everton have won just once from the past 11 meetings at that was a home game.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Man Utd vs Everton Prediction:

Everton very rarely get a win at Old Trafford and the last time was almost 11 years ago. Manchester United do remain unpredictable in that not many would have seen the club lose at home to Fulham after winning 4 games in a row but the club need to use this game to bounce back. The injury to forward Rasmus Hojlund is an obvious blow to United but they have plenty of players to fill his place and Marcus Rashford has looked sharp in his last few games and will be a danger here for them.

Everton can play their part and won’t make the game easy for their opponents. When you play United now even away from home that fear factor has long gone when they were one of the best sides in Europe but you get a sense that Everton still believe that at times, but in fact the gap between these two sides is not as big as it may seem. However we feel the misery will continue for the Toffees as we enter three months without a win for them and despite their inconsistencies United should have enough to get the job done at the weekend.
