Crystal Palace vs Luton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 9th March 2024
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Oliver Glasner will be taking charge of his third game as new Crystal Palace manager and his second at home, he won the first one beating Burnley and Palace will be the favourites to also beat relegation threatened Luton.

Palace have lost under Glasner already and that came last weekend as the Eagles fell 3-1 away to Tottenham. Under the circumstances that result was hardly a surprise but Palace are in a good position to start to pull clear and have safety on their minds. A win here would push them into the 30 point marker. Palace are 8 points above the relegation zone and at home recent form has improved with three wins from their past four games- indeed they have only won four games at home this season, so that is encouraging news and the club have seen wins against Brentford, Sheffield United and Burnley, in between that they did lose against Chelsea.

Luton are in 18th place and with 20 points they are four from safety and right now their target is Nottingham Forest. Luton had caught the attention of many towards the end of last year and the beginning of this one for their spirit but the form book doesn’t lie and they have lost their last 4 in a row. The Hatters latest loss came against Aston Villa when they were defeated 3-2 at home. On the road they were last beaten 4-1 by Liverpool and have only been able to win two games away from home from 12 played. However it is just one loss from their last four games.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Jordan Ayew will be assessed for his hip. Rob Holding, Michael Olise, Marc Guehi, Chieck Doucoure and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi are all out long term with no fixed return dates

Luton: Joseph Johnson will be assessed after illness, Mads Andersen, Elijah Adebayo, Jacob Brown, Tom Lockyer, Gabriel Osho, Daniel Potts, Albert Sambi-Lokonga and Marvelos Nakamba are all out long term

Crystal Palace vs Luton Head to Head:

The clubs have not played here for 17 years when Crystal Palace came out 2-1 winners.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixure the final score also finished 2-1- but in Luton’s favour.

The last 3 meetings in a row hav all ended 2-1.

Luton have won 4 of the past 5 meetings.

Crystal Palace vs Luton Prediction:

This is a fixture that needs more recent games and we do not believe the h2h’s have to be looked into too closely. The game earlier in the season was closely fought and could have gone either way. The advantage has to be with Crystal Palace, not just the home side but with a new manager who is looking to keep a 100% win home record for him. He has the tools in the bag to do so and we don’t believe that his side will be bothered by losing against Tottenham away last week. Glasner’s job is to finish strong but more at home than away, he needs to build up a fortress at home to carry into next season and Luton are going to be seen as a winnable game. As for the Hatters they are in poor form and we believe that will be set to continue at the weekend but they will have chances. Luton also has a good recent form gameswise over the opponents but the problem there is that the clubs have hardly played each other in the last 20 years. We fancy the Eagles to swipe the Hatters in this one.
