Chelsea vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Match Preview:

Chelsea have almost gone the last two months without a loss as they aim to finish the season in a strong position and qualify for Europe. However there are still question marks against the club because of the amount of draws they have managed and there remains no consistency with the club. Their dramatic but lucky comeback against Manchester United when they were losing in the 99th minute but won 4-3 seemed to galvanise the side, almost as if such an unexpected win would glue them together and have the belief with the talented squad that they have to go on and repeatedly win games. But then a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United the following week happened when the bottom club were able to come back not once but twice, and Chelsea just become a real head scratcher. Perhaps we have a side that will raise their game against the better sides but struggle against teams you’d expect them to beat.

The Blues are in 9th place with 44 points and not guaranteed European football for next season, and while many teams are bunched up together Chelsea has a few games in hand, although dropped points here would hinder their progress. The problems for Everton this season are becoming legendary on and sadly off the pitch. Two points deductions has mostly destroyed the clubs season, they have suffered an 8 point loss and without those the club would be looking very safe by now and on course to record their best season since 2021. There are also financial issues at stake and the Toffees reportedly owe hundreds of millions of pounds and their proposed takeover by 777 Partners looks suspect- the company have asked for more time to raise the funds. Unbalanced doesn’t come close and on top of this is the prospect that Everton could be relegated. There was some good news for Toffees fans given that as expected Luton lost heavily at Manchester City and so Everton remained 2 points clear of the Hatters, which is 3 when we take the goal difference of 14 into perspective. Everton were also able to keep Nottingham Forest behind them as they were only able to draw against Wolves. A loss here then would not be the end of the world, but a win would be a huge bonus. Everton’s recent away form is not good with just 2 points won from their last 15 on offer and no wins this year on the road. The clubs last away match ended in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Team News:

Chelsea: Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Enzo Fernandez will all be assessed and remain touch and go to be ready for this game. Both Robert Sanchez and Raheem Sterling are ill and only 50/50 to make this game. Lesley Ugochukwu, Christoper Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Reece James and Wesley Fofana remain out long term with no fixed return dates.

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin did have a hamstring injury but is expected to recover for this game. Arnaut Danjuma could feature in the squad and will be assessed but has slight fitness issues. Both James Garner and Amadou Onana are expected to return from slight knocks. Lewis Dobbin and Dele Alli remain out long term with no fixed return dates.

Chelsea vs Everton Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 2-2.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Everton won 2-0.

There is a 70% chance to not see both teams to score.

Chelsea vs Everton Prediction:

In a sense Everton share a similarity to Chelsea in that they can up their game and be more motivated against the bigger sides and even though Chelsea have struggled this season they are still thought of quite rightly as one of the biggest sides in England. The biggest problem for Everton is history, where they have not beaten Chelsea away from home in a league match in almost 30 years. Against this Chelsea side who let you have chances we expect that Everton can be much more competitive. Certainly they need to take into account the match earlier in the season in which they came out with a victory. Everton need to have motivation and drive in this game considering that the two teams below them lost at the weekend.

However this game still feels like a David and Goliath one when we compare budgets and owners and Chelsea at home will be dangerous. Taking form and quality into account, not to mention home advantage and we have to side with Chelsea. Everton have managed more points away (19) than at home this season but the value looks to be on the home side in this encounter.
