Arsenal vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Arsenal keep scoring goals, plenty of them and they will have to be installed as one of the favourites to win the league title this season. The Gunners are on a roll and have won their last 4 games in a row scoring a cool 19 goals in the process and their latest victory was a 6-0 whitewash of bottom club Sheffield United. The club had found themselves 5-0 up at half time and Premier League records were on the cards of being shattered although like most high scoring games that did not materialise. Still Arsenal come into this weekend in 3rd place with 61 points and are just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Liverpool and Manchester City have to play each other this weekend so points will be dropped and this is Arsenal’s real chance to move up the table and put pressure on the two sides who have traditionally been the best in England for a good 6 years and built up quite a rivalry. Arsenal has the 3rd best home record in the league amassing an incredible 32 points from 39 and with 10 wins from 13 they have lost here just once so far. Arsenal are also on a 3 game winning run at home and even in defeat they cannot lose 3rd place this weekend given that they are 6 points clear of fourth placed Aston Villa.

Brentford are in 15th place and have 26 points and they are six points clear of the drop but aren’t quite out of the woods just yet. It just takes a poor run of form and some would suggest that the Bees are in a bad run right now with three defeats in a row and a draw. That draw was the club's last game which ended in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea. Away form does not bode well for Thomas Frank’s side though who have lost 9 times from 13 games and that includes four defeats from their last five. There are also rumours that forward Ivan Toney may be moving in the summer to Arsenal so home fans will get a close up of him in this game.

Team News:

Arsenal: David Raya Martin cannot face his parent club, Gabriel Martinelli will be assessed for a gashed leg but there is positive news that he will be fine for this game. Bukayo Saka is being tipped to be fine following an illness, Takehiro Tomiyasu could play some part in this game after recovering from a calf injury. Oleksandr Zinchenko is a doubt with a calf injury, Jurrien Timber is out long term with a knee injury.

Brentford: Bryan Mbeumo has a delayed return and probably won’t come back now until the end of the month as he continues to recover from an ankle injury. It is the same situation and length of time for Ethan Pinnock. Kevin Schade, Ben Mee, Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry and Joshua Dasilva are all out long term and possibly the season.

Arsenal vs Brentford Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 1-1.

Arsenal have managed to go the last five meetings unbeaten against Brentford.

The last 3 meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Brentford Prediction:

It’s interesting to note that the last few games between the clubs have seen such few goals and we have to be tempted to see that run break with the way Arsenal are freely scoring goals- that will end soon of course but at home to Brentford who have just shipped 4 against West Ham, we see the Gunners continuing their goal scoring spree one which has announced the club as the best attack in the Premier League so far with 68 goals and they are four clear of Liverpool and six clear of the usually free scoring Manchester City.

Arsenal can’t be backed to win the game at their odds on price so let’s look into the goals markets. We expect Brentford to look at past games which have been fairly close and try and have a go but going toe to toe with this Arsenal side at the current time could have consequences and we expect the Gunners to be fully in the title mix after game 28.
