Match Preview:
A four game unbeaten run was ended by of all teams Sheffield United as Wolves went down 2-1 last weekend against a side who had not previously won a game. So it’s back to the drawing board for Wolves who were starting to climb up the table and had found form. They come into this weekend in 14th place and they will be happy to return home where they are unbeaten in their last 3 games here. The last two have ended in draws though and that came against Aston Villa and Newcastle and just before that they managed to beat Manchester City. Indeed the club has had three difficult fixtures in a row and came out of them well enough to earn five points from 9 where that could well have easily been zero points.
Tottenham lost their first game of the season in an action packed match that ended very badly for them as they lost 4-1 against Chelsea. In truth it didn’t feel like a 4-1 defeat but it doesn’t help when you get two players sent off. After a bright early start where Tottenham took the lead and Chelsea looked panicky, Tottenham started to implode and quickly in the second half everything went wrong for them. It is a huge lesson for the club under new management and Tottenham’s defeat means that every club in the Premier League has been beaten at least once now after 11 games.
The Chelsea loss means that Tottenham almost lost their position at the top of the standings and have dropped into 2nd place, but they are only a point behind Manchester City. Liverpool and Arsenal could go past Tottenham by the end of the weekend so the Londoners will need to get back to winning ways quickly. Tottenham have the best away record in the league having earned 14 points from a possible 18 and they have won their last two games in a row on the road beating Crystal Palace and Luton.
Team News:
Wolves: Hugo Bueno (knee) and Pedro Neto (hamstring) are not due back for at least another two weeks. Joseph Hodge is expected to miss the rest of the year due to a shoulder injury.
Tottenham: Richarlison is sidelined with a groin injury with an as yet unconfirmed return date. Cristian Romero is suspended and won’t be due back for almost a month as he was sent off against Chelsea. Destiny Udogie was also sent off after two yellows and won’t return until the end of the month. James Maddison has a knock and will be assessed. Ben Davies is expected to miss out again due to a knock, Mickey van de Ven has a hamstring injury and will miss this tie, Manor Soloman isn’t due back for a month because of his knee, Ryan Sessegnon is out long term and Ivan Perisic is out for the season due to his knee injury.
Wolves vs Tottenham Head to Head:
Last season Wolves won this game 1-0.
In the last four games played at Wolves Tottenham has just 1 win.
The last three meetings have all been under 2.5 goals.
Wolves vs Tottenham Prediction:
Wolves are an excellent price to win this game and while they will not start as the favourites there are reasons to back them apart from the value. They have made life difficult for Tottenham here in recent games and the club have faced strong teams at home over the past month and been able to deal with the situation. Should much be read into the defeat against Sheffield United? We are not too sure on another day it could well have been a draw and away games even against the bottom side now are not easy in the Premier League.
Questions will be asked of Tottenham after how they imploded in their last game. Normal Tottenham would go on a losing run now but there seems to be a different attitude this season and the new manager has certainly helped confidence grow. But you take one look at the growing injury list and the two suspensions and the latest injury to Richarlison and problems look like they are piling up. This is why we will back the home side to get at least a draw this weekend.
