West Ham vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 11th April 2021
Kick off at 2:05pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

Who could have believed at the start of the season that West Ham would be in 4th place coming into April and ahead of the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham?

Football can be very unpredictable and West Ham have deserved their place, they simply have not had a bad patch of form and arguably have their best side in 35 years. This game against Leicester will be one of the most anticipated of the weekend. Here we have two non ‘big six’ teams inside the top 4 and ready to gatecrash a Champions League party, it should be fun.

West Ham has the 2nd best home record in the league but have still lost 3 games at home. Recent home form is good though and their last defeat here came against Liverpool 10 weeks ago. Their last result ended 3-3 with Arsenal in a game they would have been kicking themselves over given that they were 3-0 up. The Hammers almost repeated that trick last weekend when they beat Wolves 3-2, but were leading 3-0. The good news is that they are scoring goals, athough they have now lost their striker Michail Antonio to injury.

Leicester are in 3rd place with 56 points and they can see 4 clubs on the horizon vying to take their top four dreams away for the second successive season. Overall the Foxes have been very solid, though there must be concerns over Jamie Vardy’s recent lack of goals. However whilst West Ham have one of the best home records in the league Leicester have the 2nd best away record, winning 10 games and losing just once.

The Foxes lost their 8th game of the season last weekend at home to Manchester City, a defeat that would not have affected the club. Before that they had gone their last 3 games without defeat. With 28 goals scored on their travels only Manchester City and Liverpool have scored more and Brendan Rodgers side are almost scoring 2 goals per away game on average.

Team News:

West Ham: Michail Antonio looks ruled out with a hamstring injury that could see him miss several weeks. Declan Rice looks set to miss the remainder of the month with a knee injury. Andriy Yarmolenko is out long term with a knee injury.

Leicester: Wes Morgan is hoping to return following his back injury. Harvey Barnes is out long term with his knee injury. Cengiz Under is out with a thigh injury and Caglar Soyuncu has Covid-19 and will miss this game.

West Ham vs Leicester Head to Head:

Leicester beat West Ham 2-1 in this fixture last season.

Earlier in the season at King Power Stadium West Ham won 3-0.

4 of the last 5 games has seen both teams to score.

West Ham vs Leicester Prediction:

Both clubs need to get the win you would feel even if Leicester currently have a 4 point advantage over the Hammers, there are too many big teams ready to pounce and within 10 days everything could look very different.

This is why we should see a very entertaining game. On one hand the Hammers have been solid at home on the other Leicester have played their best on the road. Leicester have been under this pressure before and could that be the telling moment? At the same time West Ham just seem to have this belief that they can keep winning games, so we are going to opt with the home team, but this is in reality a very close call and could come down to a lucky moment.

What is good for us is the open prices because of the teams involved and there is a lot of value to be had.

West Ham vs Leicester Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+0.5 West Ham) at 1.60

Goal line (Over 2) at 1.50

Both teams to score at 1.72
