West Ham vs Brentford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 3rd October 2021
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham’s victory over Leeds last weekend would have been welcomed given that the Hammers had slipped back in the league standings.

Three games had gone without a win but David Moyes side had played good football and knocked Manchester United out of the EFL Cup for good measure. Against Leeds not even being a goal down fazed them and they came back well to win 2-1. All of this means the Hammers come into this game in 7th place and victory would mean they would make a real splash into the top 5, for one thing it is very tight up there.

At home West Ham have played 3 games although in their last two they have failed to win with their last match ending in defeat against Manchester United.

Brentford would go past the Hammers with a win and the Bees will be very satisfied with their start in the new campaign. With just one defeat in their past 5 games the club has managed to pick up 6 points in that time with no less than 3 of those matches ending in draws.

Eyebrows were raised last week when they were able to come away with a 3-3 draw against Liverpool. What added to the enjoyment of the game for them was they were losing 3-2 at one point. What has been telling is their away form and they are unbeaten so far in the campaign.

Team News:

West Ham: Vladimir Coufal is being tipped to be fine for this game after a groin injury, Ryan Fredericks is only 50/50 with the same injury.

Brentford: There are no new injuries for the club but Josh Da Silva is out long term with a hip injury.

West Ham vs Brentford Head to Head:

The clubs have not played each other since 1993 when West Ham won 4-0, that was the Hammers first win over the Bees since 1953.

This will be the first time the clubs will play each other in the top flight.

West Ham vs Brentford Prediction:

There is the potential to witness a very exciting game between two proud clubs who both know what it is like to not be playing in the top flight. On paper West Ham have to be installed as the favourites, they have the experience, are at home and simply have the better match winning players. The Hammers are playing some great football which is a joy to their long suffering fans and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they get all 3 points on Sunday. However as any Hammers fan will tell you playing teams like Brentford has been a classic banana skin moment for the Londoners.

Brentford just need to play their game and they will have chances, but we will back the home side to power through. West Ham are really feeling the benefits of having a near perfect injury list, and the players seem very happy to be playing under David Moyes, the good times should continue at the weekend for them.
