Tottenham vs Man Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 11th April 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

Tottenham’s 6-1 demolition job of Manchester United at Old Trafford seems years ago not months, and even though Jose Mourinho’s team has a good chance to finish in the top four, currently their season is looking like a mess. This game could go a long way to repairing that.

Tottenham are failing presently and they have a real challenge to make the top four but they are close at least and come into this weekend just 3 points off. It’s the 3 other clubs looking for that same position that is the current problem for Spurs. They drew 2-2 at Newcastle last weekend and that was a huge disappointment as they were winning that game with just a few minutes left to play. Indeed Tottenham have won just one game in their past three.

However at home Tottenham are building up a good record and have gone their last 3 games undefeated- all wins. In that time they have beaten Crystal Palace, Burnley and West Bromwich Albion. Some would argue bottom half teams and in that this match could be a very hard test.

The problem for Tottenham of course is that they have to achieve something on Sunday that no other clubs has been able to do this season and that is beat Manchester United when at home. Even though United have just the 3rd best away record in the Premier League they remain undefeated on the road.

United should finish 2nd and have 60 points but are 14 behind Manchester City, though they do have a game in hand. The league isn’t quite over yet it won’t be in United’s eyes at least and they will be taking this game very seriously. Form has been good with 3 wins in a row and in midweek they beat Granada 2-0 away from home in the Europa League 1st leg quarter final match.

Team News:

Tottenham: Ben Davies and Matt Doherty look like they will both miss this game with knocks. They are the only concerns for the club at present.

Manchester United: Eric Bailly is out with Covid-19 and could miss a few weeks as he is reported not be in England at present. Anthony Martial could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Paul Pogba has a slight muscle injury but is being tipped to be fine for this game. Marcus Rashford has a minor foot injury but is also expected to play. Luke Shaw will be assessed ahead of the game due to a minor knock.

Tottenham vs Man Utd Head to Head:

Tottenham beat Manchester United 6-1 earlier in the season.

Last season this fixture ended 1-1.

The last 3 meetings has seen both teams to score.

Manchester United have only won once in the last 8 league games played at Tottenham.

Tottenham vs Man Utd Prediction:

This could be the weekend where Manchester United’s unbeaten record for the season falls. If this season has taught us anything it is that the league suffers no fools or more correctly it cares very little for records. Tottenham have a very good record at home to United in recent years. They can win this game and need it more than the Red Devils. They are almost obliged to put in a very good performance given that they have had a week off and United had to travel to Spain only on Thursday. If Tottenham can’t find a way to win this with that advantage and with the players they have they could in theory kiss goodbye to a top four spot, this would tell us that Mourinho’s team simply do not have it in them.

We give the edge to the home side but still feel it's a risk, and the safer option is to go with the goals markets, as this game could have a few goals.
