Match Preview:
This is one of the most anticipated of London derbies and there is no love lost between these clubs who will be playing for the 170th time.
Tottenham started the season well and even climbed into 1st place before the international break but they stumbled since then. A 3-0 loss away to Crystal Palace clearly wasn’t on the agenda and this was followed up in midweek by a 2-2 draw away to Rennes in the inaugural Conference League. Perhaps the key words here are away from home, because that is where the performances have been dropping off. Now back at home the club will be hoping for a good response.
Chelsea will start as favourites no doubt but Tottenham have already beaten Manchester City here and even though they have dropped down to seventh place they are only 1 point from the top.
Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are undefeated so far with a near escape at Liverpool a few weeks ago ending with 10 men and a draw. But last weekend Chelsea were back to their slick best beating Aston Villa 3-0. The real star of the show up front is of course the returning Romelu Lukaku who looks like a complete striker now after spending some time in Serie A. Lukaku is scoring goals, he did so against Aston Villa and then got the only goal of the game against Zenit in midweek in Chelsea’s opening Champions League game.
Chelsea are 2nd only on goal difference so a win here and any mistakes by Manchester United and they will take 1st place. Goals are common place too with 9 scored already and they have only conceded 1 so far the same as Manchester City and Liverpool.
Team News:
Tottenham: Steven Bergwijn will be assessed for a knock he picked up in midweek. Eric Dier is only 50/50 because of the same problem. Davinson Sanchez could miss out because he is returning from quarantine just a day before this game and may have fitness issues, it is the same situation for Giovani Lo Celso. Lucas Moura will be assessed as he has picked up a knock and is only 50/50. Heung-Min Son has a calf injury and is only 50/50 to be ready for the game. Ryan Sessegon has a knock and will be assessed.
Chelsea: Christian Pulisic has an ankle injury and has been ruled out and won’t return until at least the end of the month.

It’s been 3 years since Tottenham have beaten Chelsea either home or away in the league.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Prediction
Chelsea are the better team of course and we should expect them to have plenty of possession. Tottenham started the season with intent although a month on it’s not quite clear if that was simply new manager syndrome and one has to wonder how long they can keep up their relatively good form? Perhaps we shouldn't look too much into their loss at Palace, that could be a factor that the club will not find much success on the road this season.
At home though Tottenham should be respected, and they haven’t conceded a goal yet here. The club need to get as many points as possible at home and make it difficult for every club coming here and they probably did have a very good chance in this game. I say "did" because Tottenham currently have a lengthy injury list, true some of these players are on the verge of recovering and could be available for this game. But they may need a game in them to get going again. Chelsea do not have any significant problems apart from Christian Pulisic and they will be a constant danger in this game.
Tottenham will up the stakes and battle well but if Chelsea score first it will be hard to see Tottenham coming back. Lukaku is the happiest he has looked in a while and we should follow his form.
