Tottenham vs Burnley: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 12noon BST
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Match Preview:

Because of the FA Cup final taking place this weekend all Premier League games have been shifted to Sunday and we kick off with these batch of games.

Tottenham have taken up most of the football column inches in the past few days with a fantastic 3-0 north London derby over Arsenal. Tottenham needed to deliver in that game to keep their chances of Champions League qualification for next season and the team certainly did that. All associated with the club will be buzzing to have beaten Arsenal in the manner that they did and Harry Kane underlined his importance to the club with a brace of goals and the in form Heung Min-Son also got on the score sheet. It really couldn’t be more exciting for 4th place as Arsenal have 66 points with two games to play and Tottenham have 65 points with also two games left to play.

Antonio Conte’s side have gone unbeaten in their last four games but two of those have ended in draws, although one of those was away to Liverpool and that would have been seen as a valueable point. At home they have the fourth best record in the league and have won 4 from their last 5 games, and with 12 games won from 18 that isn’t a bad record indeed and the club will be odds on favourites to win this game.

Leeds look the favourites to join Norwich and Watford to go down this season but Burnley are not safe yet, far from it. The club are in 17th place but have the same points as Leeds. However Mike Jackson’s team have two advantages over Jesse Marsch’s one and that is they have a game in hand over them and have a far better goal difference.

Burnley lost their last game losing 3-1 at home to Aston Villa and considering that Villa are playing for little this was a poor result for the club. It also ended a good run of form which saw the club win three games in a row. The good news is that if they win this game they would go past Everton by a point, although the Toffees play later in the day. Burnley’s away form is poor with just two wins so far although they did win their last away game beating Watford 2-1 and have gone their last two unbeaten.

Team News:

Tottenham: Cristian Romero has a hip injury and missed the last game so will have to be assessed for this one. Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Oliver Skipp and Matt Doherty are all out for the season.

Burnley: Matej Vydra will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. James Tarowski has a hamstring injury but could be assessed for this game. Jay Rodriguez is only 50/50 to make this game with his hamstring injury. Ben Mee is out with a leg injury and hasn’t given up hope to return before the end of the season but looks set to miss this game. Gudmundsson and Ashley Westwood are both out for the season.

Tottenham vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season Tottenham won this fixture 4-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Burnley won 1-0.

In the last 16 meetings Burnley has just 2 wins over Tottenham.

Burnley haven’t won away to Tottenham since 1983.

Tottenham vs Burnley Prediction:

Tottenham are around 1.30 to win this game and that probably can’t be argued after they have hit some form and how important this match is too. However there is always going to be that sneaky feeling that Tottenham will do a ‘spursy’ and slip up just when you least expect them too. Their recent 1-0 loss at home to Brighton is an example. However perhaps beating Arsenal so well, a team that have been in Tottenham’s nemesis for so long, is going to be the spring board to greater things. Certainly on paper Tottenham look to have the easier run compared to Arsenal and even on a psychological view point the club would go above Arsenal as they play earlier in the day.

Our choices will be around the goalscorers and let’s not forget that Harry Kane in particular has scored many goals against Burnley and just looks bang on form. He will be full of confidence after scoring two goals in the derby and it may be worth backing him to get another one here.

Tottenham vs Burnley Betting Tips:

Half Time/Full Time: Tottenham/Tottenham at 1.91

Harry Kane to score at 1.50
