Southampton vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 11th September 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

It’s no wins yet for Southampton but they have recovered somewhat after being beaten at Everton 3-1 on the opening weekend of the season. Two draws have followed and while a 2-2 result at Newcastle may not have raised many eyebrows holding Manchester United 1-1 at this ground would have.

That is the type of result where fans would reconsider if the Saints are a team who could end up in a relegation battle and there have been some positive signs from the club lately.

West Ham are in great form carrying over from last season and are in 2nd place with two wins and a draw. The Hammers would have been annoyed in their last game as Crystal Palace came back twice but a real positive is that they have their best attacking side in a generation. The Hammers are scoring goals which is always a great sign and they have 10 goals so far, only Manchester City can equal that.

West Ham’s last away game ended in a 4-2 victory over Newcastle and the players should be full of confidence coming into this game.

Team News:

Southampton: Stuart Armstrong is out with a calf injury. Shane Long is ill and is doubtful for this one.

West Ham: The Hammers have no injuries ahead of this game.

Southampton vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season this game finished 0-0.

From the last 9 meetings with West Ham, Southampton has just 1 win.

There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Southampton vs West Ham Prediction:

It’s interesting that this is a fixture that traditionally has goals in it because West Ham are scoring almost at will and Michail Antonio is on fire. Antonio has just won the Premier League player of the month and that will put the hard working striker in great spirits ahead of this game. The Hammers have the better team and confidence hasn’t been this high with the Londoners in some time.

However the Palace result at home was a come down of sorts and let’s face it 2 points dropped. You never know if the old West Ham is in there somewhere when they find it hard to beat teams that at least on paper they should be.

Southampton will be dangerous, if they can hold Manchester United why can’t they give West Ham a game? Many people will fancy the away win but we will cover the draw for extra safety.
