Southampton vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 30th April 2021
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: St Mary's Stadium

Match Preview:

The Friday night game in the Premier League gives an opportunity for Leicester to settle into a position of power. The Foxes could go into this weekend still in 3rd place but just 2 points behind Manchester United, seven points clear of Chelsea and 10 points clear of 5th if they can manage a win here.

Of course this is a fixture where we are recently reminded of Leicester’s 9-0 stunning win at St Mary’s Stadium, so Leicester come here with positive thoughts. The Foxes have reached their first FA Cup final since 1969 where they will play Chelsea, and have won their last 2 games. In their last, match even though they were at home they showed great character to come back after being a goal down to Crystal Palace to win 2-1 and it was a huge win for the club. Finishing 3rd could be the all important position because if Arsenal win the Europa League then 4th place isn’t going to cut it.

Southampton are 26 points behind their visitors but being 9 points clear of the bottom three they should almost certainly be safe this season. Form has been poor for the hosts though who have lost 4 out of their last five games. The clubs met in the semi-finals of the FA Cup just two weeks ago and it was a close contest but the Saints lost 1-0.

At home Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have picked up 20 of their 36 points and have won six times but they have also lost seven. The Saints did win their last match at St Mary's when they came back from 2 goals down to beat Burnley 3-2. The club would jump from 15th to 13th with victory.

Team News:

Southampton: Ryan Bertrand has a knock but will be assessed for this game. Danny Ings has a hamstring injury but it could be minor he will face a test but must be a doubt. Michael Obafemi has a lack of match fitness still and could miss out.

Leicester: No new injuries for the Foxes coming into this game but Harvey Barnes is out for the season with a knee injury. Wes Morgan could also be out for the season with his on going back injury.

Southampton vs Leicester Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended with the stunning result of Leicester winning the game 9-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leicester won 2-0.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Southampton vs Leicester Prediction:

The Foxes will be aiming for their 3rd win in a row in the Premier League and victory here would almost ensure a top four finish, possibly even a top three if Chelsea have their eye off the ball at the weekend. This is a match that is in the Foxes grasp and Southampton really have little to play for. Though it is true that the Saints would welcome another three points just to make sure of their survival they should be safe as Fulham in 18th keep dropping points.

Leicester have no significant injuries excect for their aforementioned long term absentees and it’s been 4 games going back to 2017 since Southampton beat Leicester at home. This is a game that reminds us of last week’s encounter with Crystal Palace in that Leicester will have to dig deep for a victory, but they are in a very positive moment of the season for them and we will back the away win but with the draw covered on the refund as Southampton could now be unpredictable with little pressure on them.

Kelechi Iheanacho has been simply magnificent these past few months and the Nigerian cannot stop scoring. We should back him to do so again anytime.

Southampton vs Leicester Betting Tips:
