Match Preview:
These two clubs are quietly trying to leave any possible future problems behind and have a 7 point advantage from the bottom three with 33 points each, but at the same time one of them could still get sucked into a problem.
Southampton have been poor in recent months and their only saving grace has been their good run in the FA Cup where the Saints have reached the semi finals. They will play Leicester for a place in the final. However domestic form has not been good and they come into this game having lost 4 of their last five. Their last match felt disheartening as they lost 2-1 at home to Brighton who are below in the league.
The Saints home form is nothing to write home about and they have lost 50% of their games at St Mary's. This includes losing 4 of their last 5 games. It’s interesting to note that despite their poor home form they are not conceding too many goals at home, 18 so far. That is the same amount as West Ham who currently have the 2nd best home record.
Burnley are in better form than their hosts and are unbeaten in their last 3 games. Just before the international break Sean Dyche’s team beat Everton 2-1 in what was a terrific result for them. However they have won just 4 games away from home but their form has significantly improved over the last few months, and they remain a threat in this game. If either team win they could move up a place and pass Wolves who do not play until Monday evening.
Team News:
Southampton: Danny Ings is being tipped to return for this game after fitness issues as is Theo Walcott with the same problem. James Ward-Prowse will be assessed but could also return.
Burnley: Ashley Barnes is still out due to a thigh injury. Kevin Long is a major doubt as he has picked up a knock ahead of the game.

Burnley are the team in form and even their recent away form is very good. With the points that the two sides have one would feel a win for either side would more or less secure their safety this season so this is a big game. On the other side they still have 8 games to play after this and even though no one will be admitting it both teams will feel they can pull out the 3-4 points required from those games. This is why both could settle for a point here, which would still be huge for them especially if Fulham fail to win at the weekend.
Burnley are the form side though and it might be worth backing Dyche’s team on the handicap so the draw is also covered.
