Match Preview:

It’s been a nightmare start for Sheffield United who are yet to win a game and have only earned 1 point from their opening 15 on offer. This has led the Blades to come into this weekend in 17th place and already this season looks like a struggle. The good news is that the club hasn't always played terribly and in fact they have been unlucky at times. They were a few minutes on each occasion away from beating both Manchester City and Tottenham but in this league you need to be 100% focused all of the time.

In their last game we had got to the 97th minute and Sheffield United were beating Tottenham 1-0 away from home in what would have been an incredible win for them. However with four injury time minutes remaining they somehow lost the game 2-1 and no matter what was said in the dressing room afterwards that surely has affected the team. It doesn’t get much easier with their opponents being Newcastle this weekend.

Newcastle have not started off in the best fashion as they try to replicate last season's excellent run. The Magpies are already 9 points behind Manchester City and have lost 3 of their opening five games and not many people would have seen that coming. Last weekend they beat Brentford 1-0 in a narrow win but it was in midweek when the club historically returned to playing Champions League football. Indeed manager Eddie Howe admitted that the game was the first Champions League match he has ever seen. That game was away to AC Milan and it finished 0-0 and Newcastle will be satisfied with that.

Team News:

Sheffield United: Olivier McBurnie is suspended for this game, William Osula has a knock and remains a doubt for this game. Rhys Norrington-Davies has a lack of match fitness and is still sidelined. Max Lowe is out with an ankle injury. Daniel Jebbison is ill and not expected back for this game. George Baldock, John Fleck and Rhian Brewster are all missing also.

Newcastle: Joelinton is out with a knee injury and not due back for at least two weeks. Alex Murphy has a knock and could return and will be assessed. Joseph Willock is not due back for at least four weeks due to his Achilles injury. Emil Krafth will miss out again but could return next week from a long term knee injury.

Sheffield Utd vs Newcastle Head to Head:

It’s been two years since the clubs last met here and Sheffield United won 1-0.

3 of the last four meetings have ended in under 2.5 goals.

6 of the last seven meetings have seen Newcastle victories.

Sheffield Utd vs Newcastle Prediction:

Sheffield United need to start picking up points and that has to start at home. While Newcastle will be expected to win this game we think it could be quite a difficult task for them to do so. The quality is with the Magpies of course but they seem unbalanced and aren’t quite scoring the goals that one would expect of them. Their season started off like that with the 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa but so far it has gone a little pear shaped for Howe’s side and one also has to wonder how much energy has been sapped out of them on their European adventure.

The value is with the home side and we will be taking them on and this could well be just the right time to be facing the Magpies. Sheffield United in a two horse race are 7.00 to win the game and that give plenty of opportunity for a favourable handicap.
