Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 11th April 2021
Kick off at 7pm BST
Venue: Bramall Lane

Match Preview:

For Sheffield United there is nothing to play for now except the joy in playing the game. Even 19th position is looking distant and there is a 7 point gap to West Bromwich Albion. The Blades will be really up against it when they entertain Arsenal at the weekend and the focus could simply be to keep the score down.

Sheffield United lost their 24th game of the season last weekend as they went down 2-1 at Leeds United and they come into this game having lost their last 3 and are 15 points from safety with 24 points left on the board.

For Arsenal one has to wonder if manager Mikel Arteta will pick his strongest side? The Gunners blundered in their Europa League game against Slavia Prague when they drew 1-1 at home, that away goal could come back to haunt them. The 2nd leg is being played next week and surely they will be focusing more on that game?

Arsenal have had another disappointing domestic season and are in 10th place with 42 points so even qualification for the Europa League next season is in doubt, will they simply put their eggs in one basket and try to win this years competition?

Away from home the Gunners have won 6 and lost 6 though they have gone their last 3 games undefeated but two of those have ended in draws. Their last away game involved a fantastic comeback against London rivals West Ham when they came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3. Last weekend though they were beaten 3-0 at home to Liverpool to underline that the club have made little to no progress under Arteta.

Team News:

Sheffield United: George Baldock had concussion but is being tipped to be fine for this game. Jayden Bogle had the same problem and will be assessed. Sander Berge could return from a long injury lay off and will be assessed. Jack Robinson, Jack O’Connell and Billy Sharp are all ruled out.

Arsenal: David Luiz has a knee injury and is expected to miss this game. Martin Odegaard will very likely miss this game with an ankle injury. Kieran Tierney is out for at least a month with a knee injury.

Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Last season Sheffield United won this game 1-0.

Based solely on Premier League games there is a 66% chance to see both teams to score.

Arsenal won the earlier reverse fixture 2-1.

Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal Prediction:

Arsenal are of course the better side but the worry is that they could come into this game under strength and have the Slavia Prague match on their minds. Sheffield United can just play with total freedom and that is a huge advantage. That doesn’t mean to say that Arsenal will not win the game but it might be tighter than we expect.

Odegaard in midfield will be a big loss for Arsenal and even if he wasn’t injured he may have been rested for the Europa League game anyway. We still feel Arsenal should be backed to win, and we should see at least a couple of goals.
