Match Preview:
Sheffield United lost their 21st game of the season in midweek as they were defeated 3-1 by Liverpool. No one would have given the Blades a chance away to the league leaders but they fought well and with twenty minutes to go that score was 1-1. Indeed Chris Wilder’s side have found themselves in many good positions to take points and it has been incredible how in the last stages of games they have given it all away. If we include goal difference then the Blades are 11 points from safety and it is fair to say that the club will be relegated this season- they are even 4 points adrift of 19th placed Burnley. However like any Premier League side they will fight the fight and we expect them to be strong at home in this game and give Chelsea a difficult match. The problems are evident for a club who have won just 6 points from their last 10 games and only tasted victory on three occasions so far. At home Wilder’s side have 9 points from a possible 45 and sticking with that number have conceded that too.
Chelsea should have lost in midweek as they were trailing 3-2 at home to Manchester United, this despite leading the game 2-0. And then a penalty and a heavy deflection in 60 seconds gave them a stunning win. Smiles have been rare at the Bridge this season and this week has been full of them as the Blues set their sights on a strong finish and a European place. This weekend could be significant for Chelsea because if they win here and other results go their way they could move up 2-3 places. Recent form has seen no losses but 3 draws from their last five is hardly inspiring either. Chelsea’s majority away result is the loss with 6 so far and they have won 5. They remain undefeated in their last three away games after two draws against Manchester City and Brentford and a win over Crystal Palace. Indeed the Blues have avoided defeat on the road for over two months since they were smashed 4-1 by Liverpool
Team News:
Sheffield United: Gustavo Hamer will be assessed for a recent knock, Tom Davies is about 3 weeks away from a return. The club has long term injuries to John Egan, Rhian Brewster, George Baldock, Chris Basham, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Max Lowe
Chelsea: Ben Chilwell remains a doubt for this game due to illness and a knee problem. Robert Sanchez has a chance to return from a knock and will be assessed ahead of the game. There are long term injuries for Lesley Ugochukwu, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana

Chelsea have been improving but if we are being fair we also know that trusting them week in and week out has not paid off. The club have so much work still to do. However their lucky win over Manchester United in midweek should give them a springboard and they are facing the poorest side in the league and one that are surely relegated now. Sheffield United will not make life easy for the Blues and in a sense playing a team like them will show us more of Chelsea’s character. You’d have to believe that even though the Blues have struggled this season and continue to drop points against sides you would have expected them to beat, that they will get past this test. We do not like Chelsea’s price though, which is around 1.40, but we can increase that at no extra risk with a "-1 asian handicap". This is a game where we don’t believe it will be exploding with goals.
