Nottm Forest vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 14th August 2022
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: City Ground

Match Preview:

Nottingham Forest who are enjoying their first stint in the Premier League in 23 years come into this game in 19th place with no goals scored. Obviously with just one game played so far there is no panic but the club will be hoping that this isn’t the sign of things to come.

Forest lost 2-0 at Newcastle on the opening weekend of the season, a result that was expected and hardly an easy first fixture for them. The game was dominated by the Magpies who had 10 shots on target- Forest had zero. But now the club will play at home in the Premier League for the first time in the 21st century and it should be quite an emotional moment on Sunday.

Like Forest West Ham had a very tough first opponent in their opening game, having to face the champions Manchester City. The Hammers were outclassed and also lost 2-0. But in reality the club have made some interesting signings and over the last two years have proved that they are a quality side. Manager David Moyes has installed a consistency to the Hammers rarely seen before and the Londoners will be trying to get back on track in this game and will start as the favourites to win it.

Both clubs are still very active in the transfer market Forest have brought in over 10 different players and West Ham are sure to be signing more players by the end of the month. However Forest have had their critics, it is one thing to sign players and make the necessary changes to a team competing in the Premier League but quite another thing to bring in 10 strangers who have to immediately gel and hit the ground running, could this be an Achilles heel for the club?

Team News:

Nottingham Forest: Ryan Yates will be assessed after his knock, Omar Richards is out for at least four weeks with a leg injury.

West Ham: Craig Dawson has a thigh injury and Lukasz Fabianski has a knock although both players could be ready for this game and will be assessed. Angelo Ogbonna has a lack of match fitness after his long term injury and isn’t expected back until the end of the month at the earliest. Nayef Aguerd has an ankle injury with no set return date although some have quoted that he could be back next month.

Nottm Forest vs West Ham Head to Head:

The clubs have not played each other for 8 years and when they did Nottingham Forest beat West Ham 5-0 in an FA Cup match.

The last league game was played over 10 years ago which West Ham won 2-1.

The last 6 meetings have all seen over 2.5 goals.

Nottm Forest vs West Ham Prediction:

There has just been too long a gap since the teams last played each other to gauge any patterns and too many line up changes in that time also. We can only go on the present and so it is normal that the thinking will be West Ham to win here. However this is Forest’s first game at home and the players will be very motivated to do well. West Ham has a tendency of making heavy weather over clubs you think they can beat and they haven’t always been so solid away from home. This game poses more problems once you dig a little deeper for the Hammers, but we think they should still be backed to win.

Certainly we will learn more from Forest in this game, if they were to get beat well perhaps we can already start to believe that Forest will be struggling this season.

West Ham boast a lot of quality of course and the fans are clinging a lot of hopes on new forward Gianluca Scamacca. The Italian was only used as a substitute for the opening game but could well get the nod to start in this game, and could make an impact.
