England Premier League
Monday 18th September 2023
Kick off at 7:45pm BST
Venue: City Ground
Match Preview:
Although it’s not been a perfect start for Nottingham Forest they will be happy and would have taken 6 points from their opening four games. Forest would have been one of the teams backed for relegation this season or at least to struggle throughout the campaign but manager Steve Cooper will be determined to see his side finish nearer the top 10.
Forest pulled off perhaps their personal result of the season as they beat Chelsea 1-0 away from home just before the break. While Chelsea dominated possession Forest had one more shots on goal than the Blues and that was a huge 3 points for the club who would have expected to drop points. Forest have also beaten Sheffield United and lost against Manchester United and Arsenal. Incidentally those defeats were very close calls and overall Forest have looked disciplined and are playing decent football.
For Burnley the reality of being in the top flight has been a shell shock and Vincent Kompany’s side already at this early stage look like contenders to go down. They have lost all of their 3 games played so far, scoring just 3 goals and conceding 11. In their last game they had taken the lead against Tottenham but ended up losing 5-2 and they have also lost to Aston Villa and Manchester City. One could argue that the Clarets have had a tough fixture list to start with so they may well start to recover at one point but you’d have to question the players confidence coming into this one.
Team News:
Nottingham Forest: Serge Aurier and Anthony Elanga will be assessed as they have minor knocks coming into this game. Danilo is set to miss out with a hamstring injury.
Burnley: Michael Obafemi remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. Darko Churlinov is out due to illness and Hjalmar Ekdal has a knee injury and could well be out long term.
Nottm Forest vs Burnley Head to Head:
The sides last played here in the League Cup only in August and Burnley won 1-0.
It’s been 8 games since Nottingham Forest have managed to beat Burnley which was back in 2012 and Forest won that game 2-0.
The last 3 meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.
It’s been 60 years since we witnessed a 0-0 result.
Nottm Forest vs Burnley Prediction:
Burnley have certainly had the better over Forest in the past decade but we don’t expect that run to continue. Forest have looked assured and confident and they look like progressing on last season. They have a wealth of players and unlike last season they have kept their injury list down for now. Forest have come really close against better sides in Manchester United and Arsenal and being at home we expect them to win this game.
Burnley will get better we believe but we don’t believe they will have a good away record. Many teams especially newly promoted sides rely on their home form to get them by and survive and the Clarets will be no exception. Granted they did beat Forest a few weeks ago but take no notice of the League Cup game as too many changes would have been made. For the home side if he isn’t scoring goals he’s making them and Taiwo Awoniyi has got off to a decent start this season and we will be backing the forward to get on the score sheet, we expect him to have many chances in this game and he is a superb price for us. We may end up seeing a player being sent off here too, and it could well be for the visitors, if they go behind early with low confidence they could also get frustrated so get on that market too.
Nottm Forest vs Burnley Betting Tips:
