Norwich vs Southampton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th November 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Carrow Road

Match Preview:

Saturday afternoon will see many managers take in new jobs- Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa, Eddie Howe at Newcastle and in this game Dean Smith at Norwich.

Smith will undertake quite a job with Norwich clearly being the poorest side so it will be interesting to see if Smith can change the situation around for the Canaries.

Currently Norwich are bottom of the league with 5 points but if Newcastle drop points and Norwich win they would go into 19th. They are five points from safety, which after their poor start isn’t too bad and of course the good news is that before the break Norwich won their first game of the season.

That win was a 2-1 victory away to Brentford although it still cost Daniel Farke his job. The worry is up front with just 5 goals scored from 11 games and at home the club has earned just 1 point so far with a recent draw against Brighton. On average they are conceding 2 goals per game at home.

Southampton have 8 points more than Norwich and are in 13th place. After a slow start the Saints have found their form and come into this game unbeaten in their last 4.

Good form includes winning their last two beating Aston Villa and Watford and like some other teams in good form that can normally struggle the Saints would not have liked the recent international break when they were doing so well.

On the road Southampton have won just once although recent away form has been encouraging with one defeat in their last four games. This includes drawing away to Manchester City.

Team News:

Norwich: Sam Byram is back in training but has some fitness issues after a long term injury but he could be assessed. Todd Cantwell has some fitness issues and will be assessed. Grant Hanley is not due back until the end of the month after his groin injury. Ozan Kabak may return after illness but is 50/50 to do so.

Southampton: Armando Broja has an ankle injury and remains a doubt for this game. Nathan Redmond is being pencilled in to return for this fixture after illness. James Ward-Prowse has been ill and remains a doubt for this game.

Norwich vs Southampton Head to Head:

Southampton won 3-0 the last time the clubs played here.

Southampton have won the last 3 meetings.

The last time Norwich beat Southampton at home was back in 2016.

Norwich vs Southampton Prediction:

The new manager syndrome is usually effective and Norwich could come into this game with some confidence given that they have won their last game. However they will be playing a team in form in Southampton and once you take out that Dean Smith is now the manager surely the Saints would be the favourites to win this one.

What we expect to see is an open game and a much more determined and confident Norwich side. This is why backing both teams to score should be a pick, we know Norwich are still going to be a leaky side in defence and this game could be all about the Saints riding that early game pressure before exerting some of their own qualities.

We will back the Saints to get a win even if their away form isn’t the best. There are goals in this team and their form has been solid recently. Smith may end up doing a good job at Norwich but we will have to wait and see how that works out and Norwich are still a poor team.

Norwich vs Southampton Betting Tips:

Southampton to beat Norwich at 2.10

Both teams to score at 1.72
