Norwich vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 15th January 2022
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Carrow Road

Match Preview:

Norwich had to play earlier in the week against West Ham and while they were expected to lose that game they put in a good performance, alas they still lost 2-0 and that was the Canaries 14th defeat of the season.

Dean Smith’s side come into this game in last place and yet despite a poor season are 3 points from safety but the odds are looking stacked against them as the weeks go by. The recent defeat at West Ham means that Norwich have conceded 10 goals in their last 3 games and speaking of goals they have been hard to come by. Indeed Norwich have not been able to score a goal since drawing with Newcastle at the end of November.

Is this the reset button for Everton? Forget it being a new year as Everton have already lost that record with a home defeat against Brighton- it was Brighton’s first ever victory at Everton. The club did beat Hull in the FA Cup but even then it was a nervy encounter which was only settled in extra time as Rafa Benitez’s team eventually won 3-2.

Off the field the spat between Benitez and Lucas Digne was put to rest as Digne was sold to Aston Villa for £25m. Everton had already brought in two defenders but also did a deal with Villa to bring in Anwar El Ghazi on loan until the end of the season. Will the three new players make a difference to what has been a difficult season for the Toffees?

Everton are 8 points clear of the drop and in 15th place although 18th placed Burnley has two games in hand over the Toffees. Nobody is really talking about it just yet but one has to wonder when Everton will be grouped into the relegation contenders. Of course it doesn’t have to be this way and pick up some wins in their next few games and that should be the push that keeps Everton more than safe this season. The problem for the club is that they have just 1 victory since the end of the September which came against Arsenal in December and even that win was in the last minute of injury time. Speaking of ‘injury’ Everton have been unlucky in that department too and have been without the services of main forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the majority of the season but he is back now and he will need to get on the score sheet soon.

Team News:

Norwich: The Canaries have no new injuries but Billy Gilmour, Mathias Normann, Andrew Omobamidele, Lukas Rupp and Christoph Zimmermann are all out and not expected back for another 3-4 weeks.

Everton: Jarrad Branthwaite will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness along with Yerry Mina, Richarlison and Fabian Delph. All four players are being tipped to have a good chance to return. Alex Iwobi is on international duty. Tom Davies is out now until March at least with a hamstring injury.

Norwich vs Everton Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played here in 2020 Everton won 1-0.

Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Everton won 2-0.

The last 4 meetings have all ended in under 2.5 goals.

Norwich vs Everton Prediction:

Norwich of course need to start earning points and if it is too tough to do so away from home then they need to make Carrow Road a hard place to come too. If the clubs position hasn’t improved by the end of the month then one would have to assume that Norwich will be heading back to the Championship again.

With due respect to Norwich if Everton were not to win this game it would be a huge blow to a club who are already suffering with confidence. This is unfortunate because on their day Everton can be a solid side and they will need to show some grit and determination in this game. The one worry is Everton can start games slow and even though Norwich have been poor this season some of their play has been rather good, Everton can’t afford to get caught out. However it has been nearly 2 months since Norwich scored a goal and they do look like the perfect side to play at this time for a club like Everton where three points would feel like six at the weekend.

Norwich vs Everton Betting Tips:

Everton to beat Norwich at 2.00

Anytime goalscorer: Dominic Calvert-Lewin at 2.25

Correct Score: Everton to win 2-0 or 2-1 at 10.00 and 9.00
