Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

What a week is has been for Newcastle after they were taken over, and many are now suggesting that the club will be able to rival the richest teams in the world. All of this takes time of course but we have seen at both Chelsea and Manchester City that it took 3 seasons before they won the league title. Could the same really be true of Newcastle? They haven’t won the top flight league since 1927. The fans have suffered for many years and yet some like Jurgen Klopp are still up in arms over the take over because of Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.

But this is huge news and the fans will be absolutely buzzing come this game, the first under new ownership. Manager Steve Bruce was expected to be immediately sacked but this hasn’t happened. Instead he will oversee his 1,000th game as a manager, after that who knows?

Back to performance and Newcastle have been poor so far and come into this game in 19th place. After 7 games they have no wins. The clubs latest defeat came away to Wolves losing 2-1. At least the Magpies have steadied the ship at home and have drawn their last two in a row here.

Tottenham got a very good win against an in form Aston Villa side winning 2-1 just before the international break. Before that the clubs season was threatening to implode as they had lost 3 games in a row and Harry Kane’s performances have not been good.

There are question marks over this Tottenham side and yet on their day they have played good football but they are 8th place and are two wins behind the league leaders now.

Team News:

Newcastle: Miguel Almiron is a doubt as he is returning from international duty.

Tottenham: Steven Bergwijn and Ben Davies will be assessed due to fitness. Emerson Royal, Davinson Sanchez, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero are doubts as they are returning from international duty.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 2-2.

Tottenham have only beaten Newcastle once in the last 8 games.

Both teams to score has happened for the last 3 matches in a row.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Prediction:

As it stands Tottenham are the better team but there will be a party atmosphere at the stadium now that Mike Ashley has finally departed. Tottenham have never been a club who have dug deep when a lot seems against them even before a ball is kicked and of course Bruce remains and he will be drilling it into his players how important this game is, forget it is his 1,000th in charge.

In short the current players are now playing for their futures at the club. Most will be sold, but some could be kept on and see how this adventure plays out, so they really need to up their games from the start, so this has definitely influenced the odds, meaning covering the draw on the refund is still possible whilst backing Tottenham, who lets face it do still have the superior quality. We will back quality over morale this time.
