Match Preview:

Tottenham are where Newcastle were last season and the Londoners are 13 points ahead of their hosts coming into this weekend. Last weekend Tottenham got a good 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest and with Aston Villa drawing it meant that finally they were able to go into 4th place, albeit on goal difference. However Tottenham also has a game in hand over Villa and a top four finish has been boosted. However let’s talk about the home side first who despite a spate of injuries continue to pick up the points. Surely without the injuries manager Eddie Howe’s job could have been lost but it’s difficult to blame him this season. Newcastle have been able to pick up 10 points from their last 15 on offer with just the one recent loss which came against Chelsea away. Their last home game only ended in a 1-1 draw with Everton who have been struggling this season. Last weekend witnessed an impressive 1-0 win away to Fulham and Newcastle remains a hard team to play against even with key players out.

Tottenham won’t finish any higher than 4th this season but that will be just fine for the Champions League. They have the same form as Newcastle and have gone their last three games unbeaten. Tottenham’s rivals Arsenal could do them a favour if they beat Aston Villa, and if Tottenham wins this game, then with the game in hand they will become the odds-on favourites to clinch 4th. Tottenham has the 5th best away record with 24 points won from 45. However there should be caution when we look at their recent away record which is dogged by draws and just one win in the past 3 months which came against Aston Villa. The club has recently lost against Fulham and drew 1-1 in their last away game against West Ham.

Team News:

Newcastle: Nick Pope remains out with a shoulder injury but could return in 2 weeks. Valentino Livramento, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton are all missing and not due back for at least 3 weeks. There are long term injuries to Jamaal Lascelles, Sven Botman, Lewis Miley and Matt Targett. Sandro Tonali is suspended for the season. Kieran Trippier misses out with an ongoing calf injury but is expected back later this month. Joseph Willock could be assessed but remains 50/50, Callum Wilson is out for between 3-4 weeks with a tendon injury.

Tottenham: Richarlison is being tipped to return from a knee injury but will have to be assessed. Ryan Sessegnon, Fraser Forster and Manor Solomon are all out for the season.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season will be one result Tottenham will want to forget as they were thrashed 6-1 in this fixture.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Tottenham won 4-1.

The last 6 meetings in a row have all seen over 2.5 goals and the last 8 meetings in a row has a 100% success rate to see both teams to score.

Although Newcastle won at home last season it was their first victory over Tottenham here since 2016.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Prediction:

Quite simply put, goals should be the order of the day here. Newcastle are fighting for a European place and Tottenham has a huge battle with Aston Villa for a Champions League one. Tottenham of course had an horrific result here last season but in all the club has usually travelled well up here. Form is the same for both sides so we expect to see an equal, competitive game. Forget about avenging results Tottenham did that earlier in the season and we are going to tip them to win this game. Be cautious because we are witnessing two sides who have similarities, one moment they look like world beaters the next they creep back to old form from past years. Credit should be given to Newcastle for plugging away despite so many injuries when they come up against top six sides there are always going to be question marks how well they can compete. Of course what version of Tottenham will turn up? That is the question, but they certainly have the quality to win this game and come into this one with minimal injuries and possibly a returning Richarlison. With both teams to score being an excellent return you may be tempted to get on this market but the bookmakers have done their research here and that market is as low as 1.30 so it might be best to stick to the over goals market for better value.
