Newcastle vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 14th May 2021
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Manchester City are the champions! That became official when Manchester United lost 2-1 at home to Leicester on Tuesday night. It always seemed like a matter of time before City were going to win it but after United opted to play a weakened team for that game because of the fixture pile up it looked as if Leicester had a better chance of victory and so it came to be.

There will likely be a guard of honour before this game kicks off and congratulations all round and we expect to see a very different atmosphere around this game and maybe some weary heads in the City set up after a few deserved moments of celebration.

Newcastle can celebrate in their own way too given that six weeks ago they were amongst the favourites to be relegated. Since then though the Magpies sped up their campaign and found good form just at the right moment, so much so they come into this game in 15th place, safe and 12 points from the bottom three. Indeed Newcastle should finish the season on 40 odd points much like last season with the recovery they have experienced in the last month or so.

Last weekend Steve Bruce’s side recorded one of their most surprising and impressive victories of the season by travelling to 4th placed Leicester and beating them 4-2 and there is no reason Newcastle even as the clear underdogs cannot give a decent account of themselves here.

For Manchester City it is all about what the club have achieved, they have been able to add the Premier League title to their earlier Carabao Cup win and they have the Champions League final to look forward to at the end of the month, not bad going. As for form, Pep Guardiola’s side has the best away record in the Premier League and have won 42 points from a possible 51 with just one defeat so far.

Team News:

Newcastle: Callum Wilson is out for the season following his hamstring injury. Elliot Anderson could return for this game following his hip injury. Fabian Schar is suspended because of his red card earlier this month. Jamaal Lascelles is out with an ongoing foot injury. Karl Darlow has a knee injury and could be assessed.

Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne has some fitness issues and could miss out he will face a late test. He is the only concern for the club presently.

Newcastle vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 2-2.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester City won 2-0.

In the last 11 meetings Newcastle have won just once.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs Man City Prediction:

We expect Manchester City to obviously be in a party atmosphere and happy but also very respectful of their opponents. Newcastle will be relaxed with their all of their relegation worries over so we should see an open game but a calm one. It is a blow for the home side to lose Callum Wilson but at least they are safe and their season is secure.

Manchester City will probably muster up the quality to get the win but they are big odds on to win and the value could be in backing Newcastle on the handicap. We have to remember of course this is now a dead rubber game so where is the value in in backing a side at 1.25?

Sergio Aguero if picked to play could be worth backing to score after his embarrassing penalty last weekend he will be wanting to get on the score sheet and erase that memory.

Newcastle vs Man City Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+2.0 Newcastle) at 1.60

Anytime goalscorer: Sergio Aguero at 1.83
