Newcastle vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th November 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: St. James' Park

Match Preview:

Since being taken over Newcastle have had some difficult fixtures but the club will look at this game and feel that a potential win could be on the cards.

It is a win that Newcastle need given that they come into this weekend in 19th place. The Magpies still have no wins although they did manage a 1-1 draw away to Brighton in their last game which was encouraging.

However it has been all change at Newcastle, new owners and now a new permanent manager in Eddie Howe. Howe did well with Bournemouth overall recording a 50% win rate in his first spell with the club and he will be tipped to steady the ship and save Newcastle’s season. With just 5 points so far they are already a further 5 points from safety with just 2 points earned from their last 15 on offer.

Brentford are in 14th place and after an encouraging start to the season they have lost their last 4 games. These could well be worrying times for the Bees given that their last match ended in defeat against the poorest side in the league in Norwich. The club has conceded 5 goals in their last two games but have a seven point advantage over the hosts and are 4 points from the relegation zone.

On the road Brentford have a better record than at home with just one loss so far, that came in their last game losing 3-1 against Burnley. The Bees though have managed to beat both West Ham and Wolves on their travels.

Team News:

Newcastle: Ryan Fraser is expected to return after his recent calf injury but may face a late assessment.

Brentford: Shandon Baptiste could return after a lack of match fitness. Mathias Jensen has Covid-19 and is a major doubt for this game. Yoane Wissa is 50/50 to return from his ankle injury. Zanka has a muscle injury and will be assessed.

Newcastle vs Brentford Head to Head:

The last time the teams played this fixture was back in 2016 in the Championship and the Magpies won 3-1.

The teams have only played each other 12 times with 8 victories for Newcastle.

It’s been almost a year since the clubs last played each other which was in the EFL Cup and Brentford won 1-0.

Newcastle vs Brentford Prediction:

These two teams can’t be separated in their win markets and that means there is a lot of value for us in this game. When the home side are the same price as the away side the market really is open and this looks like Newcastle will have a great chance to win their first game of the season.

Everything looks set up for the Magpies, being at home, a near sell out crowd expected, playing a team that they generally have a good record over, Brentford’s recent poor form and of course Eddie Howe’s first game for Newcastle. For us this is a likely home victory and we should get on it.

This is the chance for Newcastle to start their season this weekend and anything other than a win would feel like a real downer, we think the club can get the points they need and Brentford on their recent form shouldn’t be followed.
