Man Utd vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Is Erik ten Hag turning around Manchester United’s fortunes? Right now it seems so and the club have reached the EFL Cup final this week as they beat Nottingham Forest over two legs and they will meet Newcastle in the final.

United also eased into the next round of the FA Cup with a routine win over Reading and in the league they have made huge strides over the past 3 months and have a real chance to finish in the top four. Granted United’s last game did end in defeat but it was a close and epic game of football away to league leaders Arsenal as they eventually went down 3-2. The most important aspect is that Ten Hag’s side were not outclassed and they will be tipped to get back to winning ways in this game.

The Red Devils come into this weekend in 4th place with 39 points and hold a three point advantage over 5th placed Tottenham plus they have a game in hand. While some points have been dropped away from home at Old Trafford United have been nearly flawless with seven wins from 9 games played and just 5 goals conceded. Their last home win felt like a statement as they beat the champions and their derby rivals Manchester City 2-1.

Crystal Palace are mid table and will be well aware that they have a 7 point advantage from the bottom three. For them they're having a solid season but you get the feeling that the fans would want a push now into the top 10 and to stay there. The worry for the Eagles is that they have gone their last 4 games without a win although they have drawn their last two. Those draws felt significant as they were against Manchester United and Newcastle. This sums up Palace who can really raise their game against teams you would believe they would struggle against and they will be hopeful for a surprise in this encounter. On the road for Palace it’s just 2 wins so far however they have come in the last four trips. The clubs last away game finished in a narrow 1-0 loss to Chelsea.

Team News:

Manchester United: Christian Eriksen is out for almost 2 months due to an ankle injury. Jack Butland cannot play against his parent club, Diego Dalot remains a doubt to return for this game. Scott McTominay is set to miss out with a knock but will be assessed. Donny van de Beek is out for the season with a knee injury.

Crystal Palace: Wilfried Zaha is only 50/50 to make the game due to a hamstring injury. Nathan Ferguson is sidelined due to fitness issues.

Man Utd vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

The teams met just a few weeks ago in the reverse fixture and that finshed 1-1.

Last season Manchester United won this fixture 1-0.

The last 4 meetings in a row have all finished in under 2.5 goals.

Man Utd vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Crystal Palace know how to cause problems against teams who boast better quality than them and they have enjoyed a few trips to Manchester in recent times where they have upset both United and City. However we expect United to get the job done here. Palace won’t be afraid to have a go and the worry is the pace and quality in Ten Hag’s side who are bouncing with quality.

United found the gaps away to the Eagles a few weeks ago and they were heading for victory until being stunned by a last minute free kick, we don’t see that happening here and will back United to get the three points. The odds on the home side winning are off putting and they are around 1.40 to do so so let’s look into different markets. United can still keep the pressure on City for 2nd and this title is far from over so they will understand consistency being key here and giving themselves every chance to stay in the title hunt.
