Man Utd vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 18th April 2021
Kick off at 4pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

There are just two games on Sunday and the early evening game will feature Manchester United who are in 2nd place and Burnley who are not out of the danger zone just yet.

The Red Devils will want to consolidate 2nd place and they are looking good for it with a seven point gap. Being Manchester United they probably haven’t given up thoughts of winning the league title. Though they are 11 points behind Manchester City, they do have a game in hand and there are 18 points still left on the table, it looks impossible but of course the league title isn’t City’s yet.

Form for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has been excellent with 4 wins in a row and last weekend they came back from one goal down to beat Tottenham 3-1 in an impressive away win. In midweek United reached the semi-finals of the Europa League by beating Granada 2-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate and they are on course for an all-English final against Arsenal in that competition.

Burnley are down in 16th place with 33 points and they have lost their last 2 games. Last weekend they recorded their 14th defeat of the season at home to Newcastle losing 2-1 and while they are 7 points from the drop much will depend on the earlier kick off and if Fulham have pulled off a surprise win at Arsenal.

Sean Dyche’s team have lost 8 games on the road this season and won 15 points from a possible 45. They have managed just 12 goals away from home and have the 4th to worst record in the league.

Team News:

Manchester United: Eric Bailly has some fitness issues but could return for this match and will be assessed. Marcus Rashford has a foot injury and will be assessed ahead of the game. Anthony Martial looks set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Burnley: Ashley Barnes looks set to miss out again with his thigh injury. Robert Brady is out with his Achilles. Kevin Long has been missing for the last few games with a knock and looks set to miss this one too. Dwight McNeil has a knock but is being tipped to be fine for this game. Nick Pope is only 50/50 to return with his shoulder injury.

Man Utd vs Burnley Head to Head:

Burnley surprised Manchester United in this fixture last season winning 2-0. It was the first time that Burnley had beaten United in the league in 11 years.

Earlier in the season Manchester United beat Burnley 1-0.

5 of the last six meetings has ended in under 2.5 goals.

Man Utd vs Burnley Prediction:

For Manchester United this is about getting the job done in a solid and professional manner with no fuss and we expect them to ease to a win here. There is a lot of confidence in the side and they currently have the best form in the Premier League. Their recent advancement to the semi-final of the Europa League will install them with even more good vibes and it is hard to see anything but a home win here.

This is underlined of course if Arsenal beat Fulham, Burnley simply may not be at their best so wait and see how that game pans out before looking at this one, and of course Burnley do not come here in good form and have conceded five goals in their last two games. The best Sean Dyche can do is perhaps start thinking of next week’s game.

United are 1.30 to win the game so we can increase those rather short odds with no extra risk by using a "-1 asian handicap".

Man Utd vs Burnley Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Man Utd) at 1.55

Anytime goalscorer: Mason Greenwood at 2.75
