Man City vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

You wouldn’t think that Pep Guardiola had just seen his team put 4 goals past Tottenham as they beat Antonio Conte’s side 4-2 in midweek, because Guardiola was angry and not happy. However he was right to be angry. First it was the fans who booed off their side at half time because they were losing 2-0. Secondly he attacked his team because he understands that they have not been playing well- not by their high standards for the majority of the season.

City have repeatedly started games slowly and let other teams in and had they not made a superb comeback against Tottenham it would have been a major blow to their title chances. The champions come again and on paper this could be a big score for them, but the problem as we have seen against the likes of Brentford and Everton is that City have been making heavy weather of opponents that they should be blowing away. They play before Arsenal so if they win here they would close the gap to just 2 points however the Gunners would then have 2 games in hand, so this game is hugely significant, City have to win but more than that Guardiola is demanding a performance.

Wolves are fresh from being knocked out of the FA Cup against Liverpool in their replay which they lost 1-0. It may well affect the team who really should have been going through after the first game as they seemed to have scored a legitimate winner at Anfield. In the league the club are in 16th place and recent form has been good with just one defeat from their last four. In their last game they beat West Ham 1-0 and their last away game ended in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, indeed they are undefeated in their last three away games, so that is a good sign.

Team News:

Manchester City: The champions have no injuries to the first team coming into this game.

Wolves: There are no new injuries but the following players are all out long term- Chiquinho, Boubacar Traore, Pedro Neto and Sasa Kalajdzic

Man City vs Wolves Prediction:

Predicting Manchester City games of late hasn’t been the easiest task and when you think they will sail away with it at home they don’t turn up and drop points. But it still takes a brave punter to go against them at home even if you are only backing the double chance on the opposition. But the man has spoken publicly and we believe that Pep’s recent words will have a positive and not negative effect on his side. Had some managers done the same it doesn’t always carry the same weight but this is Guardiola one of the greatest managers of the last 10 years and he has kicked his players up the backside- he knows just how brilliant they are and he knows they have to switch on or otherwise they will hand the title to Arsenal without a fight.

This is why we are expecting a vintage City performance at the weekend and one where they will overpower their opponents. Make no mistake Wolves look like a different side since Julen Lopetegui took over and they deserve full credit but we only see one winner here and City could score quite a few goals.
